Show us your hunting hats(posted my almost)
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:06:00 AM »
If you're like me you have several hats you like to wear hunting.

I too have several I like but I'm still searching for the "perfect hat"

I've looked all over the web and have even ordered a couple that I thought was it but ended up returning them. I thought I had found it at Bass Pro and went to a bunch of effort to have them track one down only to be disappointed when I got it in hand.

I know the hat exists, I've seen a few bowhunters in photos wearing it.

Let's see yours please!
Thank you!
God bless,Mudd

So…are you saying the hat in your avatar didn’t work out for you?  :biglaugh:

I like the hat in my avatar but it's not "my perfect" hat. I haven't found it yet. My wife says I have a hat fetish..lol I can't seem to own too many hats and yes sir I do find a way to wear them all, just not at one time.

I have been known to wear several different hats all in one day. It doesn't take much to get me to switch hats either..lol I love hats! I just want to find the one that makes me not want to switch around.

God bless,Mudd

PS I have one that's very close but it's too heavy to wear all the time as it's made of leather.

Hey Mudd,
I think the hat Minnie Pearl use to wear on the Grande Ole Opry  might be the one. L.O.L.
Good luck, I'll keep my eye out.

Hey Mudd! Post a pic of your "almost" perfect hat.
Maybe we can help ya out.

If you have a head as perfect as this one it is a shame to put a hat on it.   Even knowing that I don't leave camp without something on my head.

I get a lot of mileage out of just a few kinds, a baseball type cap for work, the basic watchcap, a felt fedora, and a shortbilled flat hat.  I have some really nice western hats that I wear when I go horse tradin or working in our booth at hunting expos, but those 10X beaver stetsons don't get to go hunting.  I don't think there is one perfect hat for me.  Just depends on the day and the situation...  I would like to get one of those Stormy Chromers for next winter maybe...  You can't have too many hats.

This is good headgear for hunting pigs in West Texas on a warm day.

I like this hat for hot weather.  Keeps my balding head from getting sunburn.  Short bill doesn't interfere with shooting.  My favorite cap for Spring bear hunting, sitting in a hot blind or for a cap to wear while using my ghillie suit.  Just doesn't get in the way.  I have copies of this cap in black, blue, grey, olive and brown.

Its hard to beat this model when you have some hard work ahead of you like gutting an elk, breaking horses or putting up hay.

This is one of my favorites.  Soft brim doesn't interfere with shooting.  Brim is wide enough to keep the water from running down your back when it rains.

This last one is also a good go to headcover.  I keep half a dozen of these in my dufflebag when I go to elk camp.  I use one to sleep in.  I like to use this one to hunt in if I know its going to be getting cold.  I like to put on a new one every 2-3 days to keep the smell down to a minimum.

You can't have too many hats.   I have my eye on one of those Stormy Kromers for next fall....

I have most of the ones M.Sherpa does, my biggest problem is finding hats to fit my fat head. Most of the time XL-XXL just makes it. If you think that can become expensive, try find a motorcycle helmet to fit...lol!

A hat is like a woman they may look great and have a nice shape, but they may be expensive and not suit your needs or wear well in the long run!.     A good hat and a good women are hard to find!.I found my Marine Corps jungle boonie cover is the most all around hunting hat that I have.
Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a
difference in the world, but the Marines don’t have that problem.

You guys better hope that Ron LaClair doesn't see this post. I love my hats but Ron is obsessed. He truly has one for every occasion. Rumor has it that he has gotten one for every birthday since the day he was born. That makes for quite a collection.  :banghead:

Have anyone of you ever tried a Barmah hat?

Im thinking on buying a kangaroo leather one.

I just purchased the "Fred Bear" hat from 3rivers, looks good, fits nice but its not a good choice for our HOT weather this time of the year.
