Hunting in/near Mass?
«

Changes in work may force a relocation to the Boston area. Having grown up in Northern California and now living in Colorado by way of Oregon, I've enjoyed some great public hunting, much of it minutes from home. I have no knowledge of North East hunting--archery or upland birds. Any information on hunting opportunities in or near Mass would be valuable.
Thanks!

Dave,
We're in the same boat! We're leaving Montana for Boston in the middle of June. I've been doing research like a mad-man and it seems that oppurtunities are plentiful and under-rated. Between Mass, NH, VT and Maine hunting for whitetail, turkey, moose and bear are very good. I just submitted our apps for moose in NH and VT. I'm excited to get over there and start roaming. Take care and shoot straight!

That's ironic! I was up in Whitefish just two weeks ago. I've heard great things about NH, VT and Maine...not so about Mass. But, I've gotten spoiled by hunting 10 minutes from home (and pay for it with a long commute).
Good luck with your move!

well i'll tell ya what..... in 2 years of hunting the boston area, i've had 3 opportunities at p&y bucks, and i shot one that went 115". its different hunting , small plots in communities that are bow only. you would be suprised how many big bucks are taken in MA... people jsut dont talk about it. Heck this morning I had a huge tom 8 yards away from me, jsut couldn't get a clear shot.

Ticks can be used to your advantage. Most of my bowhunting sites are due to owners asking me "how can I get rid of Lyme dz and these nasty Deer ticks?" I just tell them about my deer control methods! Being a veterinarian doesn't hurt either cause it does sound official and I usually don't discuss that the main vector of deer ticks is the white footed mouse. I don't get into white footed mouse control but I do get into a lot of private property

Thanks for the comments. Great to hear that MA isn't lacking hunting. And the fishing is a big bonus for me--I do feel landlocked here. But, having as much public hunting within an hour as exists in the entire State of MA has helped me cope

Dave,
New England ain't wide open spaces like Montana. But with in 2-3 hours you can be in Northern NH and well into Maine or on Cape Cod wading for stripers with a fly rod...or spinning rod but those have wheels like them funny bows
