7 1/2 and more?
« on: April 11, 2010, 08:49:00 PM »
I have a used 09 Super Shrew that I have been tunning with little success. The bow is smoothly slinging 60-65 and 65-70 wood arrows like a rocket. No shelf noise here! The bow is 55 @ 30". I probably am pulling just a little over 28. So I figure it is around 50lbs. I started with a 7" BH and moved up to 7 1/2". But I still am experiencing noise. It sounds as if it is string noise. (tummmb) I am not shooting any silencers as of yet, but will try some cat whiskers tomorrow. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? Thanks in advance! Jon

If it is string noise you should be good with some wiskers or hush puppies.

I run my super shrew at 7 1/4". #56@30" I prefer animal fur for silencers. Change your brace height slowly 1/8" at a time. Good luck.

As I was adjusting BH, I did change by 1/8". It must be string noise, because I couldn't get it out. The same deep vibration stayed thgroughout my BH adjustment. I've always used whiskers, and will try them first. If I hear no diference, I will search for a heavier silencer. Thanks!

I have all my recurves braced out at 8" that seems to be the magic number.

but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

All strings make some noise.  Silencers should reduce the noise to a dull humm/thud.

My SS is about 7 3/8". Use wool yarn balls about the size of a golf ball 11 1/2" from the string grooves.

Thanks Westbrook! I turned my BH down a little from 7 1/2 and added wiskers, but didn't get to shoot as of yet. Will try yarn next. My wife has plenty of it. Thanks again! Jon

My SS is now shooting rockets as quiet as a church mouse! Set my BH at 7 3/8 and added whiskers. Thanks everyone! Jon
