The season here in CO started on Saturday, but had a few irons in the fire so didn't get out until Sunday morning.

5 AM found me and my friend Sean in the blind over looking a pasture and small farm house.

We had set up as we do each year in an ambush spot along the feeding route of the birds that call this little farm home.

Had this little visitor...

As they milled around for 20 min or so, I just could not get a good clear shot at any of the toms and tey soon cycled out of distance with us left only to watch their display.

We soon thought that our chance had left when from behind we hear the unmistakable sound of ruffling feathers...

This guy ducked under the fence at about 8 yrds and all I got was feathers to show for my efforts...  Sorry for the poor vid quality, but it was with my dig cam.....  The shot looks good from the vid, but feathers were all I got, and he started strutting again just a few minutes after the shot......All I could do was watch!

Earlier in the week we had seen a large bodied Tom with a small blonde beard that trickled out into a rusty color.  Not the longbeard we all hope to get but a neat trophy all the same.  We nicknamed him "Blondie"...

As we sat and watched the birds from afar I could only hang my head in disbelief from just missing one of the bigger birds we had seen all morning.

I started a short calling sequence in hopes of drawing back a lone tom.

Soon afterward we heard from behind us the unmistakable sound of ruffling feathers again....

Much to our surprise it was Blondie!

He ducked the fence to my left and Sean turned on the camera.....

Me and my trophy "Blondie"

I was shooting a 58" Firefly Longbow 54@28  Vapor shaft with 100 grain insert and 125 grain snuffer on the business end.   Yukon Tracks Blind.

A special Thanks to my friend Sean for letting my hunt with him and for his excellent camera work       :wavey:
