Finally after 3 months..
« on: April 12, 2010, 04:34:00 PM »
Took the curve out this afternoon, for the first time since shoulder surgery (Jan. 6). A little stiff and sore for the first few shots. Started to loosing up around a doz. Need some strength yet, but looks good. I'll be ready for deer/moose this fall.

After your shooting sessions be sure to ice the shoulder. It will help a LOT!

I shot a 30# bow 12 weeks after elbow surgery last year for a couple of weeks just to get back to shooting.  I moved to a 41# bow for a few weeks and then to my 50# bows.  Now I'm shooting 55# which is more than I shot in 1967.  Moral of story is take it slow and easy coming back.

I went back to the Dr. for my last follow up this morning. He told me to continue shooting and continue my strengthening excercises.
Thanks all.

I concur. Ice the shoulder with an icebag for 15-20 minutes after your sessions. You may also warm up the shoulder with a heat bag BEFORE activity. This will increase bloodflow to the muscle and help loosen up tissue   :)

I have a healing shoulder also. To warm up I shoot a 35# bow before jumping to my 55# bow. I stop shooting at the first sign of pain. Shoulder gets a liitle better every day. I hope yours heals quick.

That's good news. Just remember not to overdo it. I am about 3 weeks away from shooting after surgery on my hand. Bob

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I had my left shoulder done in '07, but it's a different feeling now that I'm pulling with the sore side instead of holding the bow with the sore side. Not any better or worse, just different. I'll be fine.

3 months without shooting, how miserable!  I had ankle surgery each of the past 2 summers and wore a cast.  I got my to put a stool in the yard and she would retrieve my arrows, I'm a lucky man.  Take it slow and easy, lots of ice.

Pops, good luck. Sounds serious.

I had a real hard time pulling the bow today. Sooooo, I pulled out the wheels and no problems whatsoever (except that it was so easy, even 14 weeks after surgery, that I wanted to puke). I'll practice with it for a while to strengthen, then move back to the curve.
