Antelope hunt?

I am wondering if a guy could do an antelope hunt for 800.00 in WY.  I would like to do in early in the season due to school.  I have my own blinds and am able to camp out, so tags and gas would be my biggest issue.  Will there be left over tags around Gillette?  Also, does a guy need a truck for this hunt or can I get by with a car?  Anyone want to hunt together?

If there are leftover tags available and depending on what kind of gas mileage you get you should be able to get by on $800. Get a BLM map and check with the fish and game site on private ground available on a walk in permit (available on line thru fish and game and free). There should be ample hunting areas available. The car situation can vary, most of the two tracks are drivable when dry although you may have to drive around some rough spots if you have good ground clearance. If it rains though it will get very greasy and slick, it dries quickly but you need to stick tight until it does or you may get stuck. I would do a pickup or suv if at all possible.  Ben

Rich, Jump at the opportunity. Antelope hunting is a blast, and here's a chance to split the costs.

The east side of the state always has left over permits.  Just make sure there is ample access, some units are mostly private.  I think you could do it for $800, especially with another person or two.  I would not take a car, it will severely limit access to more remote areas.  Make sure you get at least one doe/fawn permit.

Clearance will be an issue on the car part,  Lots of left over tags as been mentioned.  I am goina get one if I get an elk early, probably down west of Midland to take advantage of the later season.

I did just that in 2003, tough to get access to private land unless you have lots of $$$. The BLM land that I checked out had very few Antelope, but the most populated area (Antelope) was at the far south end of the zone, around Bill, Wy. Very nice bucks walking around right in town! Try Montana, they have a Block Management program that pays the ranchers to let hunters hunt their property. Contact the Montana FWP for info. License applications are not due until June 1. Antelope are a great low cost DIY hunt. While there are places where a car might work, you would be severely restricting yourself. Find a way to get a truck even if it means renting one. Split with a couple of guys it wouldn't be too expensive.

Also check out western North Dakota. It has some very good access laws for private land and it would be quite a bit closer for you. I would definitely leave the car at home. Good luck.
