Spring done sprung in Indiana - with pics
« on: April 15, 2010, 08:24:00 PM »
Been hitting the woods pretty hard since early March (mainly deer scouting  ;)  ) but I generally shoot a stump or two and keep tabs on the local turkeys.  The best time is running out - gonna get hot and miserable soon - so I packed a camera along today.  It was a real pretty day to be in a real special place with my buddy.  Enjoy...

The may apples are in full bloom...

Some flowers too...

We always called these "Jack in the pulpit"...

And the fiddleheads are coming along well...

Now to serious business....

Here's a pretty nice deer trail

With my buddy checking it out

And at the juncture - that is what you call a "classic licking branch" and a nice secondary scrape...I've been keeping my eye on this spot for a while.  Today I figured out where the boogey man will have a hidey-hole next fall..

And on the way down the trail I came across a Boone and Crockett (that's a 62 inch MAII for perspective)

At the end of the trail - hmm, what's that?  I guess I ain't as stupid as I look - notice the white haul rope...that's the stand I killed my big 8pt from last fall..  I call the stand "Leonard's Tree" 'cause my buddy Leonard killed a doe here once.

Finally, my buddy Oskar, the blood tracking Dachshund, checking out the old well - yep, Oskar, somebody was here before us....

Very nice B&C tree stump.  My inlaws are from Indiana and they always talk about missing the trees there.  We just do not have trees like that around here.  Nice pics of the plants and the area.  Thanks for sharing them.
