When I started shooting I shot split finger but I switched to 3 under and I shoot better.

For me it looks like I'm better 3 under for long distance and split for less than 20 yards...

3 under for the last 3 years, after 30 odd years of shooting split.

More accurate now than ever before.
Winning or losing is not the important thing,,the important thing is how well you played the game.

I shoot 3 under when not shooting with a thumbring.  3under has less contact area on the string so string torque isn't as big of a deal.  At least for me 3 under is easier to control the arrow.  Finger pinch isn't nearly as big of a problem with 3under vs split(less contact area).  Also when you do get finger pinch using 3under the pressure isn't put on the arrow as much as split reducing the change of the arrow getting pushed off the shelf.  Some say split gives a longer point on distance but this is a misconception.  This is only when anchoring with the index finger on both because the arrow is in a different place.  If you anchor with the middle finger on split and index on 3under point on should be nearly identical.  3under has been used basically forever like split so they're both "traditional".  I know some shoot split but I don't really understand why.  BTW 3under isn't louder than split or vice verse.  It's just a matter of tuning.

I shoot split finger.I no the arrow goes where my eyes are looking as long as i hit my anchor point and make a good release.it's helped me several times in those early morning and late afternoon shots.Never had a reason to shoot 3 under.

I shoot three under and it's bang on for me in hunting ranges but can't go long with it reliably yet.

I'm just starting to shoot trad again after a 30+ year absence. Ive been shooting with a release for years.  I always shot split before but 3 under seems to work better for me now.

three under for me as well....no finger pinch, very comfortable and a clean release. I do shoot INSTINCTIVELY, I absolutely concentrate soley on the target, arrow is minorly in my periferal.
