moose scapula (shoulder blade)
« on: April 30, 2007, 10:12:00 AM »
To Anyone from Alaska.
I am looking to obtain a moose shoulder blade, winter killed, hunter killed ....doesn't really matter.  I would like to obtain a full sized blade though, like from an adult bull.  I am trying to build a small library of certain bones for my Bowhunter Ed teaching, comparing deer to elk to moose.

If you think you can find one in good shape, can you private text me and discuss logistics.
Thanks
ChuckC

Thanks Ray.
We can all learn a lot from seeing things like that.  It would be neat for someone to coordinate and try (might be tough due to regulations) to get rib bones, or at least portions of rib bones from different animals around the world.  We talk about them.  Heck...might be nice to actually see a deer rib next to a Cape Buf' rib.     The more we see, the more we learn, the better we can be.

While we were butchering my bull last year I was tempted to keep the shoulder blades. Now I wish I had. Sorry Chuck. I'd have been glad to send them to you.

I saw a seminar by Monty Browning where he had rib bones from a number of different animals all the way up to Cape Buffalo.  Very interesting, and if you could put a set together it would sure be a great addition to your class.

You might try over at  Alaska Hunting Forum

Seems like I came across one last year but it's tough getting over there right now.

A group of us are going to Newfoundland this fall, I'll try to bring some back.  Hope you find something before, tho.
