Black Creek Bows WOW!
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:10:00 PM »
I got to spend a little time with Jim of Black Creek Bows at the Children's Hospital Benefit shoot at Tannehill Park this past weekend.

I was interested in looking over his new takedown recurve. Being a bow maker myself I always check out the other guys work. Jim's new bow is a work of art, sleek, light in hand and absolutely beautiful.

The only problem was Jim is a lefty and only had a lefty on hand at the time, I am a righty. I stuck around long enough to see the reaction of a lefty friend who took the bow for a test drive. He came back from the range with a big smile on his face and nothing but great things to say about the bow.

Jim is a really stand up guy as well, my kind of folk.

I have shot one of Jim's bows and let me tell you he has it figured out.

The bow i shot would smoke a arrow.

I will be ordering one in the near future.

Jim is also the kind of guy that you WANT to do business with,  there are no worries about if hes going to get back in touch with you, stand behind his product etc...

I had one of his Banshee's, unfortunately it was stolen, I will get another bow from Jim in the near future.

Brent Rudolph stuck a Banshee in my hand at ATAR the year before last. It was a lefty. I'm not. I shot it anyway. Not only did I hit the target with it, that bow hit it HARD... and it was only 35#.

I shot the Prototype(above) at the Childrens Shoot this weekend. I used my 650 grain arrows and they shot fast and hard.(Had a near pass thru on a bag target!). The grip was exceptional. The quality of the woods and the glass limbs was exceptional. Asked him if he would sell that one to me, but I knew he needed to take it to the Tennessee Classic this weekend. Maybe next week. LOL. I bought a 42# pounder for my wife instead. Hats off to Jim's "Character" too. We knew we were going to get slammed on Saturday with weather,(check the news)and Jim got there early for a front row seat!

Killy, feel free to take my Banshee for a walk at Baltimore in a few weeks.

Eric, thanks for putting a face to Jim. Having had the greatest dealings with him while creating my bow, I never put a face to the artist. Can't wait to meet him face to face and shake his hand for building this for me:

I bought the Siren TD prototype back in Feb and had him make another set of limbs. OUTSTANDING bow.  The original limbs are 43@28, I draw 26.5 which makes 39#, they shoot a 380s grain total weight arrow 155fps, not bad when you consider my short draw.  My new limbs come out to [email protected] and shoot a 7.5gpi @175fps and a 10.5gpi @163ish fps.  No shock at all and smooth drawing, and puts where I want em, love it.

I just wish I'd only got one set of limbs. I'll shoot one set for 30min or so and then want to put the others on play with them, Jim's trying to talk me into a new riser, maybe next year.

BTW Jim is a great guy, his only flaw is he treats everybody like a long time friend and loves to talk...about anything, I wish I knew more people that had that same flaw, they don't come any better than Jim Gainey.

Just got one of Jim's bows and had a chance to fling a few. I got this bow to give my shoulder a rest as it's only 60 43@28. I had some 3555 GT Trads that come in at right around 468 grains. This is the lightest bow I own and really zips an arrow fast and hits hard. My shoulder loves this little bow. I think I may send it back for a set of 48-50# limbs in the future.

Thanks Jim

Last year at the Howard Hill shoot there was a separate competition held between the top shooters from the first round. In the end it was the guy shooting one of Jim's bows that took the prize of a new Howard Hill bow.

I have to agree with everyone else here, Jim is first rate to deal with and builds a really nice shooting bow no matter which one you choose. Jim also stands behind his work and I have seen this first hand. I am looking foreward to hopefully being able to purchase another one of his bows in the future.
