...US Mail....oh boy!
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:18:00 PM »
For those of you who know me you know that I am a lover of Blacktail Bows. They are in my opinion, for me, the best recurve built in the world today.
That said, I have had an interest in R/D bows for a few years. I have bought and sold several. Never found one that had a grip I could live with.
Last summer I had the privilege to join up with a bunch of archers, many from this site, and do a shooting clinic with Rod Jenkins. Thanks again Rod! While at this event I got to shoot a Fox Archery bow that Blackhawk brought with him. That did it...had to have one. So smooth, shot where I looked right from the get go, well built, and the grip fit me perfectly.
Last night when heading home from a bible study I look at my phone to check for messages. There is a text message from our mail carrier at work...a package from Wallowa, Or. arrived.
It's all your fault Lon!     :biglaugh:
(by the way Blacktail Bows are still the #1 recurve in my book. These Fox R/D bows are the finest R/D I have shot though. I'm sure they will get along ok together on the bow rack....haha)

You've got great taste Snag...I've always loved the Royal Crown. One of the sweetest shooting longbows I've had in my hands. Can't wait to see pics.

I know the excitement of getting those long packages in the mail and am sure your Fox bow was worth the wait.  These bows rank toward to the top in all the categories that matter.

Three time world champ Larry Yien has seen the light and is using Ron's bows for both competition and hunting.

One only has to see and shoot one to become a believer.

Snag, bring it to WSR in Packwood, WA, OK?

Congrats on a great bow! I was thinking about buying one, but there weren't much people who could give references. I know the Larry Yien story though.
Because almost nobody could give me an opinion, I didn't dare to order one.
So I ordered a Cari-Bow Peregrine. That won't be bad either I suppose....
Oh well, perhaps the next one... or will it be a Blacktail? Or an ACS? or a Northern Mist? Or a Hummingbird? Or a Mohawk? Oh, so many good bows......it just ain't fair!
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

Can't wait to see pics!!  I just got a call at work today informing me I have 2 packages waiting for me when I get home upstate to do some hunting.  A box of 2016's and a Robertson Vision Falcon I bought a couple weeks ago.  It will be a long wait until Sunday when I can drive up.

I still can't get past the "looked at my camera to check for messages" bit. Only thing MY camera tells me s that I'm stupid-looking. Well, that isn't true. It says I'm old, too.

I halfway expect that Keith got HIS phone call on the ol' Electrolux.

Oh, and this thread is a total waste without pics.    :readit:    :knothead:

I saw it.. it's ugly and just barely lobs the arrows.. yeah right. There are definitely alot of things to like about the design and performance of those bows.
I just wish the mailman knew what a great opportunity at a practical joke he missed. I would have loved to fold a box in about 3 pieces and then get a camera set up for when snag walked in to the shop...priceless.

Okie, you are something else, really full of it!...just another reason I like you.... haha

Ok, here it is...nothing flashy...just a great design built with cocobola and ebony, with bamboo core. I love the radiused shelf and the bevel on the outside of the shelf. I just came in from shooting it. At twenty yds the first two arrows were touching in the bullseye...had to quite at that! Ron uses a satin epoxy finish that I really like for a hunting bow.

This bow is too easy to shoot! I am not exaggerating. I think I'll name it "Easy Rider". The site off the top of your bow hand and the arrow is really nice. It is even in drawing pressure and upon release it is soooo easy to hold the bow at the target throughout the shot. It is a shooter! Anyone thinking of a R/D bow I would definitely do yourself a favor and check these Fox "Royal Crown" bows out. This good ol' Oregon boy can build a bow!

Oh, that little black spot on the lower part of the riser...it's a beauty mark!!!

The profile is great! I got a High Sierra in a trade last year and like you Ron makes a very nice bow and they are easy on the draw...Congrats on a new bow!

I haven't shot a High Sierra Keefer. But they do look like they'd be a fine bow. Does your bow have a similar shelf design as the Royal Crown? I love the fletching clearance this shelf provides.

So, the question is...should I get the dremel tool and do stippling on the grip????

JC, I'll give you Ron's phone number. That way you won't have to wait so long.   :biglaugh:

Dremel that bow??!!!??   :scared:  Not on your life....now what I do with it after you sell it to me I can't say. I was thinking about doing an old time "pricked" stippling like you see on gunstocks.   :biglaugh:
