Snakehead fish shot while bowfishing (Video)

After Brett (virginiashadow) left today I went down to the local creek to see how the Gar were running.  I saw a few but missed a shot or two. I was wading in a funnel spot when I saw a fish coming that I really didn't recognize.  When it got really close I let fly and hit it!  Here's the video.

No it's not native it's Asian. It is a problem to the eco-system.

Nasty invasive species that should be shot! Fins resemble a dogfish (bowfin) don't they. Great shot and video.

I thought it was a bowfin at first.

I had never seen a live one. Actually, I found it to be beautiful.

Now, go kill the rest of them. I would try to filet it.

I don't know if they'll eat it, but there's a pair of Ospreys right where I left it for them.

I grew up thinking a mudfish..bowfish, dogfish..whatever you want to call them were no good to eat. Couple yrs ago a hunting acquaintance swore to me they were just as good as a channel cat if filleted. I finally tried one and he was right. Really surprised me.

Did you shoot it near the Potomac?  They are our worst nightmare now in MD and VA.

There is a show on one of the discovery channels about the snakeheads and the all out war against them.

I would think that skin would make some great backings!

Hope you killed it. They are notorious for living while ON LAND, even traveling over it.
