« on: May 05, 2010, 05:27:00 PM »
I just found a stash of new autumn Orange 2419's,and I'm droolin' over them. But,I've never used a shaft that size. Will they be ok on a 63# recurve? What broadhead weight am I looking at here?

Thanks.

Are those really 2419?
I would judge their deflection then at 340,
equaling an AMO spineweight of 92#.
Unless you really draw far it seems a little stiff for my taste...

Yeah,2419,and I was afraid they'd be way to stiff.

I show a 2419 to be 115-120 lb range AMO.  They are some seriously stiff shafts.  It would take a good bit of length and point weight to get them to work well with a 63 lb bow, but with the right bow it could be done.  They would be some heavy hitters for sure.

I use 2219 in a 66 @ 28" cut 29" in my Bear TD. The 2315 might work better, depending on your draw length.

I've got 6 2419's that I bought years ago in my wheel bow days.  I used to shoot an 80 pound compound bow and was going to build some arrows to bear hunt with.  The 2419 has a .268 spine and weighs 14.6 gr per inch. Mine are the XX75 camo hunters.  I would sell them cheap if anyone is interested.

Find a big ole boy drawing 75# @ 30 and he'll probably buy them from you......

Might be able to use a heavy point. Not sure though...

You might be able to get them to fly 'okay' with a lot of front loading and if your bow is cut way past centre.
I've shot them from my 50# Quinn and they are mighty stiff.

What is your draw length?

I'm with Fletcher on the static spine; 0.268" ATA deflection translates to 0.221" AMO deflection, or ~ 118 pounds spine.

Absolutely they will work. I shot 31" 2419s out of a 63# @ 29" Martin Hunter. I had the standard aluminium insert, an aluminium adaptor, and 160 grain points and broadheads. I killed a few animals with that set-up, including a buffalo. I don't know if they were perfect, as I didn't know much about tuning back then, and I don't have that rig or those arrows anymore. But they sure did work a treat.

Depending on your draw and center cut of your bow, they might work great.
I've got a dozen of the same Autumn orange chomping at the bit to shoot out of the 71# recurve.
Still working my way back to shooting that weight after a medical set-back... but heck ya, they'll work especially if you don't cut them too short !

My buddy shoots them full length out of a 67#with 145gr ... of course we both draw close to 30".

Gotta say those 2020, 2219 and 2419 have always been favorites..... might be because of the thicker walls.
Just leave em long and go from there..... nothing wrong with a 175/200 point of you need it.
Plus it makes for some impressive penetration...on anything from targets...to target frames !   :scared:
