Counted Coupe on Coyotes
« on: May 06, 2010, 09:49:00 AM »
I am going to call my "On-the-Bow" blind a success.

I was turkey hunting this morning and called in not one but two coyotes. They came almost all the way up to my dekes, past them maybe a yard or so, about 12 yards. I was able to move around get my bow up and was drilling a hole in one of them with my eyes on the spot I would want to hit if I were shooting.

They never saw me or seem to notice me at all in my ghuillie and behind my blinds. I didn't draw on them for fear, not fear that I would get busted but fear I would actually release my arrow. They are out of season during our turkey season. Why? I don't know but if I had it my way the season wouldn't ever close on them.

I didn't know anyone had a coyote season. Interesting.

Was that you that posted the youtube vid? Do you have pics of your blind - I am highly intrigued by it and would like to try it this fall as I just bought a ghille as well.

That is interesting that they are out of season. Coyotes are open all year in Wisconsin I believe. My buddy's son shot one last week that came into the decoys.

They are legal in CT year-round except a brief time in Oct or Nov...

We shoot them all year round here in Oregon. Between them, bears and cougars we have predators coming out our ears!

Big panic here in Nova Scotia around Coyotes. A young woman was killed by two in Cape Breton last year and now they are in the news regularly. Just had a $20.00 bounty put on them for trappers only. Bounties aren't supposed to work but Minister of the DNR was heavily pressured to do SOMETHING. The Snowshoe hare population has crashed here so they may be a little hungry...

Mudd, that little blind was sure working right for you if you could hide from those coyotes that close. Must have been a kick to be that close to critters that "wiley" and get away with it! Good story, and good luck with the turkeys.   :clapper:

In Washington the season is year round and you can hunt them with a Big or small game license.  Coyote's are a real pest and darn near menace when they come into our neighborhoods, killing and eating our cats and small dogs.  Not to mention keeping me awake with all their yapping and howling when they move in.

Sorry to rant, hope I didn't offend any coyote fans.

Eating cats is doing us a favor, as I see it.
They got no business out there.
Well, maybe a neutered barn cat.

I don't think it has near as much to do with the coyotes as the turkeys.  I believe they don't want people in the woods with rifles during turkey season "hunting coyotes".   :help:

I think Braveheart is correct and I am grateful I don't have to worry about rifles, shotguns are bad enough to worry with.

Please don't take that the wrong way since I'm glad they allow hunting them with shotguns and I've taken my share with one but this year will be different. I'll either get one with my bow or I won't get one.
