help...carbons for my wife 32@23
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:48:00 AM »
Is there a carbon that I can use to get a decent arrow weight(9gpp) for her to shoot targets with? I don't want to leave them real long and adding point wait will make them too heavy. What do you recommend and where can I get them?
Combo Hunter 46@28

I came from nothing and I brought it with me.

I would look at some of the Junior carbon arrows, like Axis Junior or maybe CE Thunderstrom. These arrows are made for bows under 40#.

My wife just gotta bow that shoots 30# @ 25".  I was gonna try some of the GT 15/35 shafts cause the 35/55s just weren't getting it.  Big Jim told me she was shootin' just about the same weight and pull as his wife and that he recommended the GT Entrada 600.  They are light, but hit right on.  Haven't cut them or anything, just tried 100 and 125 grain points.  Now she's shootin' better than ever.  Thanks Big Jim, give him a call.  He'll straighten ya out.

I have a Carbon Express Predator shaft, full length, .600 spine (20-40lbs). The shaft is full length (30") and it weighs 252 grains on a digital scale, WITH a nock and insert. (no fletching) These shafts weigh 7.7 grains per inch.

Cut at 26", fletched with three short feathers, and a 90 grain tip, I think you will still end up with an arrow just over 10gpp.

My son shoots these arrows cut at 28" with a 175 grain tip drawing 40 lbs@ 27" and gets GREAT flight from them off the shelf and centershot. His arrows end up just under 11gpp.

I`m afraid that if you cut even these carbons to 26" they may end up too stiff for 32 lbs. Especially with a light tip.

I get these shafts from a local store and pay too much for them trying to help him out. I`m not sure if any of the sponsors here carry them or not.

These are the best shafts for low draw weight I have found yet. Because of her draw weight it will be tough to end up under 11gpp. But, the difference between 9gpp and 11gpp is not very noticeable.

Hope this helps.

If you don't want to leave them long your going to have to use wood, carbons need to be as long as they need to be in order to fly right. My wife has a similar setup and we were able to get some GT1535's to fly good left full length with 145 gr points.

For my 38#@29 mildly R/D longbow I shoot Goldtip Entrada's Ultralight .600. I bareshafted them till 35 yards, and a 125 grains fieldtip and a 20 grains weightadapter gave me the perfect flight.
I think for the setup of your wife you should increase the pointweight with at least 50 grains.
GT Entrada Ultralights are very good arrows!
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

I agree with the GT Entrada 600's they are fine shafts.
I use em on my 40* Dorado for indoor w/ 100gr points & with 145gr. points for my friend that shoots 35# @ 24"

The .600's are a good match for bows in the 40's at average draw lengths, but I believe she'd be much better off with something lighter for 32# and a 23 inch draw.

We half a half dozen of the new Predator II .800's on hand which is much closer to where you need to be spine wise IMO.  We also have some of the .700's but I'd lean towards the .800's at her draw length.

Eugene, we have a few .800's and .700's, they are a new item from Carbon Express.  We'll be stocking more they just don't have them completely off the ground yet.

Good luck trying to get what you want with a carbon I am a huge fan of carbon but they do not make any that spines weak enough for short drawl lower lb bows. My girlfriend shoots a samic stingray measured 32lbs @25inch drawl I have tryed beeman juniors they are a 500 spine left full length 28" with 125gr head and I can shoot them out of my Blackwidow 45lbs @ 26.5inch drawl and they shoot too stiff spine. I tryed goldtips 15-35 cut to 28" with a 125 point and they are 600spine they are better but still stiff. The only thing I can get to be perfect is alum 1716 cut 27" long with 100gr point they are the same weight as the beemans 375gr and she love the way they shoot but are not as durable.  Widow

Easton Redline 780,This is what Tracy shoots. When she is shootin her 30# target limbs. She can use them up to 36#,just by shortening them to 27".

Im sure the .800's Braveheart suggested would work out great, as well.I spent alot of time and money trying to find the right arrow for Tracy. It looks like I should have just called Braveheart.

People have trouble with lighter bows and carbons because they try to shoot what is available for hunting arrows. When useing light bows and only shooting targets all you have to do it shoot target arrows. You can get carbon and carbon/aluminum shafts all the way down to a 1500 spine. No problem at all getting a shaft that will work for any weight bow if you just look around.

Widow Sax a 900 Redline would work well to replace your wife's 1716 arrow if she had rather shoot carbon. As suggested a 780 should work for the bow in the original question as well.

When setting up wives and kids that have no intention of hunting it is best to forget about hunting arrows alltogether.Sure they might out shoot you once they get an arrow that will really tune to there bow instead of your hand-me-downs but you do love them don't you?   ;)     :biglaugh:

James is spot on! My wife had no intentions of ever hunting so I first started her out on 1716's.
She currently shoots 780's with very good results!
I reckon so
