MORE carbon advice needed (sorry!)
« on: January 08, 2007, 12:57:00 PM »
I'm looking atthe CX Terminator select shafts (all that's available in the UK in heavy Carbon   "[dntthnk]" )

I'm looking for an arrow that should suit 2 different bows, 57 & 58# Should I go for the 4560 shaft with a lighter, say 150gn, point or possibly the 6075s with a heavier head? Both should fly well (I think ???) & I know that with the higher FOC of the heavier head I 'should' get better penetration.

So I suppose my question is, do I go with what CX recommend, the 4560s, or try to tune in for a better FOC & get an overly stiff shaft?

I think you could go with the 45/60's and still go heavy. 60/75's are way too stiff in my experience.

I shoot 45/60's in the CX Terminator Hunter and CXTH-lite with 50 grains added behined the insert (PDP weights) and 175 gr tips out of a 54# Fedora.

I draw 28", shoot 29" Terminator Hunter 4560's with 3- 4" LW feathers, a 50 grain brass insert/125 grain point for a total weight of 525 grains.  This shoots well in various recurve bows I have with draw weights from 47 to 57 lbs...

I'm shooting 29" 4560s out of my 56# curve and 58# lb.  I got bad flight outta the box with the regular insert and 125gn head, even with a 100 gn brass insert and 125gn head.  now flying like darts outta both bows with 100 gn insert, and 200 gn ezpull points...total arrow weight is 570gn.

Goldtip 55/75, 140 grain stos tanto tip head, 100 grain tapered insert, 100 grain brass arrow insert.  30 inch arrow 4 fletch out of a 55# Super Kodiak. 23% FOC.  Put the arrow 7 1/2 inches thru the left shoulder blade of a 250# field dressed buck sept 28th.  Went 80 yards.
