How do you create your own arrow shafts/arrows.
« on: May 16, 2010, 05:25:00 PM »
Okay so I'm the definition of new to traditional bow hunting and hunting alike. I never got in to it, and where I'm from, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, that's almost a sin. I never really got much of a kick out of sitting back and looking down the sights of a rifle or a compound bow. Then a few months ago I found out about traditional bow hunting. I didn't know that people actually hunted traditionally, or had a large number of people who did so.

I digress to the subject however. I'm 18 years old and I'm a little late in the game but I'm extremely interested in the trad bow hunting world. To indulge myself further I was looking to learn to make my own arrows from roots up, excuse the pun.  :)  I researched as much as I could before pulling my hair out as I only found one video with someone demonstrating it as I wanted, however he was using a jig to do it and did not explain how to make this jig or for that matter talk period during his demonstration.

If anyone who has any information on a good way to make their own arrows please respond with any information you have. It would be much appreciated. I have all the tools necessary to do work with wood as my father had a "do it yourself" binge and bought any and ever wood working tool known to man. Exaggeration or not, he's got a full woodshop in his garage and I'm aching to use it for my new passion.

Go to the 'build alongs' section on this site-you will find more than enough info to get you started there.
