A longbow even a recurve shooter can love...
« on: May 16, 2010, 05:32:00 PM »
First off, I have always been a recurve shooter. There is something about the mass weight that really helps me settle down before I let the arrow go. But, I have always wanted to find a LB that I could shoot as well as a recurve. Over the years, I have shot a few Morrison Dakota's that I really liked. The Zipper SXT with LB limbs is also a very well behaved LB in my hands and also very high on my list.

So I'm at the BBTC and come across a Morrison Shawnee (60", 46@28", ebony riser, foam core limbs) for sale. I take her down to the backstop to dance with her a little. Wow! What a really great shooting bow! Fella selling her gave me a awesome deal so I said sold, my man, sold.

Slim in profile, light in the hand but she shoots with authority. I added a strap on quiver to give her a little more mass in the riser area.

Good to see my fellow trad hunters at the BBTC. Wish I could have stayed longer but family obligations made it a one day visit this year. That's alright. Sawmill and Denton Hill are right around the corner.

Cheers!

Very nice bow JL. I love my Morrison Cheyenne and foam core limbs are the bomb. I am also a newby long bow man as well. I now ride the recurve/long bow fence and am enjoying it.

:bigsmyl:   That's all I'm trying to say!    :bigsmyl:

I love my Shawnees, only I like the E-limbs making a 62" bow...  I'm sure I could make that one work too!  Great bow, congrats!!!

Had a chance to shoot a bow this w/e w/ foam core limbs.  Was the first one I've ever shot but I can tell you it won't be the last.  I'm jealous. Congrats.

Rest looks to be some kind of hair rest. Maybe sealskin.

Cool! Didn't know there was a E limb from Morrison. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for a set of those E limbs. Believe me, I get everything the D limbs have to offer.

The back of my limbs have a weave type pattern and figured they may have been built with carbon laminations. Here's a pic;

I'm a stickler when it comes to high performance bows and this Shawnee sure does scream an arrow. First thing I did when I got her home is dress her up with a set of Hushpuppies. Just made a good thing even better!

A very nice looking bow, I have never shot one but I am shooting more LB's these days than recurves so maybe some day in the future. I'm still enjoying those Vortex binos we traded for ! Enjoy the new bow, what a looker   :thumbsup:
