After an hour and a half of hauling bait, Dad and I slipped into the blind with a small cinnamon bear already enjoying the bait. About 45 minutes later Dad signalled to me that a bear was coming in. I grabbed the bow and Dad got the video rolling. The bear was a large Blackie standing a solid 4 inches taller than the top of the 50 gallon drum. Being a spoiled bear hunter I took a while to determine if it was a shooter or not. By the time I decided to shoot the wind swirled and the bear was gone.
During the next hour he came back twice and didn't want to present a shot.I had decided that he needed to be in front of the barrels to shoot as my bow set-up shot very slow and needed him under 15 yards. On his 2nd time in, with video rolling, he finally gave me that perfect opportunity. The arrow hit him low and tight behind his left leg and seconds later I could hear him death moaning.
A short celebration and video interview later I was standing beside a bear that was much bigger than I had 1st thought. He ended up measuring 7 foot 6 inches nose to tail (without pulling) and green scores 20 inches.
The bow is a 48# 58" Red Wing hunter shooting a 625 grain CX150 with a Tusker Concord and brass insert up front. I was using my Kanati strap on and wearing a pair of shorts with rubber boots and a Tshirt.....not exactly Trad looking. Hope everyone enjoys the pix....Ryan
