I mount all of mine horizonal, but add a slight twist down and to the right to allow for my cant (left handed shooter).  That way the head doesn't intrude into my sight picture.

Horizontal so that it doesn't effect my sight picture.  Find that even though I don't think I gap, I shoot low if they are vertical.

I spin them till they are running true, where ever they wind up that's where they stay.........
