Portable stands what do you guys use?
« on: May 19, 2010, 01:00:00 PM »
I'm looking to get a portable lightweight tree stand and steps.  Having trouble deciding.  What do you guys think about Lone Wolf  or the Chippewa. I want something that's easy to set up, and packs together well for in and out hunts.I currently have a summit viper ss climber which is difficult to shoot from with the bar.  I also have a big game portable with gorilla steel steps, sturdy stand but you need a crane to hoist it up a tree!  Thanks

I like the Loc On's.  Light and easy to hang.  I use the rope attachment version.

I just bought a Gorilla Silverback Scout HX. Weighs 9 lbs, and can be packed in to any place you want. This will be my first year using a stand so, I can't give any positive feed back on it yet. But, look forward to a report this fall!

I use the lone wolf alpha with the climbing sticks. The stand hangs easy and is rock solid.

I like the Gorilla Scout for the money.Light,Excellant design, well made,Packs well, superb strap and is secure.I use the Loc On aluminum model as well and Screaming Eaglet.

You can find the gorrilla scout on sale sometimes for an excellant price.you might do a search and see what it looks like and possibly find some good prices at Cabelas etc.

That paired with 3 or 4 of  my smaller lone wolf climbing sticks is the most compact, packable lightweight a setup I can use and gets me in the deep woods without the least amount of hassle and it wont get hung up in overhangin branches and queezes through tight spaces.I use multiple rubber bungies to secure everthing together into a tight lightwweight unit.

I prefer the sticks over the steps overall.

I've used both of them.  I have many Lone Wolf hang-ons.  I have one Chippewa.  Gotta love the Lone Wolf design (and cheaper than the Chippy)

I have an old Loggy Bayou.  It weighs 11 pounds but I see no reason to switch and it is very sturdy and solid.

The leveling system of a Lone Wolf for me is hands down top notch! The Alpha is all I use for everything! The leveling platform AND seat is huge for the comfort factor and being able to hang the stand in any tree, especially with the offset bracket! The LW is worth every penny and then some!

lone wolf matched with the gorilla steps  basically the gorillay steps are the same thing as the lone wolf sticks except the pack nicer they actually lock together for silent packing

I love the lone wolf.  I still prefer to have stands hung well in advance of season, But if I am hunting in an area that demands the stand be taken down each day due to regulations or theft...I take my lone wolf.  It's so light, that it really does not hinder my entrance and exit.  You can literally hang it with one hand.  Great stand.

I'll add another vote for the Lone Wolf Alpha. I add a third (ratchet) strap when I use the hanger hook though. I don't want ANY movement. It's probably overkill, but it sure beats falling out.

!7" tripod stand (Big Game) It isn't light, but it is rock solid, has a swiveling seat, and it stealing it would be an undertaking (120 #)

I have replaced all the nuts and bolts with TORX style fasteners, so some lowlife with a multi tool isn't going to strip it down.
