A friend of mine is thinking about getting a longbow.  He doesn't want to spend a lot of money because he is afraid he might not like it.  Both of these bows are in his price range.  Lots of info here about the Montana but not too much talk about the Maddog Mutt.  What ya'll think?  Thanks.

The Maddog Mutt would be hard to beat for the money.  Nothing against the Montana, I had one.

I have a Montana and you can't go wrong with it. I know Mike makes a heck of a good bow, lots of info about his bows on here. Have never shot the Mutt but I am sure it is a shooter also. Should have no problem with either.

Butch Speer

I own a Montana that is fantastic. I've never shot a Maddog bow but, know some that have. I've heard nothing but praise about Mike's bows.

Maddog = Sponsor and helps out a lot of kids on here. True custom bow made by one of us who just happens to be a great guy to boot. Bet you can guess where I am leading to eh?    ;)

I have a Montana I tought it shot great until I shot my Treadway!!!!

I would give it a try to the Mutt, actually it ended as runner up on my list of new bows prospects

His standard longbow is only a few bucks more than the Montana.  With that one can get the exact right bow for draw and length, you cannot do that with the Montana,  and it may very well be tillered better and shoot better.  I have tried two Montanas, they were different from one another.  To be honest, the person that was looking for a longbow hated them.  He bought a hoyt that was far better and that is not custom either. There may be a Mutt that fits your friend available.  I have never seen one of them, if it is as good as the standard than it is a super deal.

Why not support the little guy and get the Maddog?
At least with the Mutt you will have an absolutely unique bow.

I have a Montana and I did have 2, You can't beat the bow for the price...that being said I would think to have the ability to have a Mad Dog made to your exact specs., with maybe a choice of woods that you like....that's priceless. And they are a sponsor........that says it all!

Support the sponsors, go with the Mutt.  :archer2:

I've got a Montana and just bought another one used. I've heard great things about Maddog bows just never have shot one. The Montana I got I shoot better than most of my custom bows but the do make great bunny bows and frog shooting bows that I don't have to worry about trashing.

Mad Dog all the way, whether he goes with the Mutt or his standard longbow.  Mike's a great guy who does great things for the kids (including my son Cameron).  And his bows are EXCEPTIONAL values.

I had a Montana and it was my least favorite longbow that I have owned. This is coming from a recurve guy so take it for what it's worth. I would go Maddog.

LimbLover

Maddog all the way. Its custom versus manufactured. Unique one of a kind bow versus standard stocked product.

The Montana is a good bow. Mike's bow is going to be better and the designs are similar.

I have shot both and by far my favorite is my Maddog Longbow. First, my Maddog Longbow is far better looking. Second, the grip on my Maddog Longbow fits my hand like a glove and third the Maddog shoots a lot better. I just never liked grip on the Montana. My choice would be the Maddog Longbow.

My vote goes to the Mad Dog, great guy and made in America  :)
