First two piece with Connexion hinge
« on: May 20, 2010, 09:00:00 AM »
I had a little down time while awaiting a re-order of ebony.  I decided to do a little research and development.  I've been meaning to build a two piece take-down.  I first retro-fitted an old bow with a sleeve, but was not satisfied.  I suppose it's a good system, but I had a lot of trouble getting the two halves to cooperate.  I still have to use a vise to pull them apart occasionally!

Here is my first Connexion hinge take down.  I like it a lot!  I used an overlay to recess the back of the hinge.  She is a 68" ntn Sapelo mild R/D longbow.  I used bois-de-rose for the riser, maple action wood core, and black glass.  She draws 50@28.

I planned on putting mocassin skins on this one, but I'm not so sure now.  I can always do it later.

I have a couple of connexion hinge super shrew bows and I must say your application of this device is as nice as I have seen, (better than my own work for sure).  Good job.

You can see how I built it in the bowyer's den.  Here are a couple of construction shots.

I'm still playing around with different systems Ron.  I've got to try the fiberglass sleeve next.  When I sort out the best system for me I'll share my thoughts.  :)   I like this one a lot though.

Marty, I would be more than happy to be your field tester on this one for you. Been wanting a takedown anyways and also want to try out one of your longbows. You have the best tips going as well. That riser wood is SWEET. Is your grip any bigger than normal since you inlaid it in the overlay? Perfect weight raqnge as well. Flint

If I wanted to build a smaller grip or one with a higher draw weight I would have laminated the riser.  This one has a fairly large grip.

I hope you used Titanium screws.  SS screws are brittle-garbage.
