Below are some pics Beth emailed to me of my Schafer Silvertip riser and the new set of limbs Dave built for me with Russian Olive veneers.  The limbs with my 19" riser yields a 62" bow and the draw weight is in the range of 46-48#@28".

Thanks fellas.  I can't wait to get it in my hands.  It'll be a couple of weeks before I can shoot it though.  I had a second biopsy performed on the top of my right shoulder Wednesday and also had one done on the top of my right forearm.

When I had the first biopsy done on my shoulder my Doctor told me I could shoot my bow on Saturday.  Before I tried drawing the bow back I went through the draw motion as if I had the bow in my hands and an arrow nocked.  Suffice it to say the pain said "Don't even think about it!"

T.J.,

I think it'll stay warm enough here in SC.    ;)    :)   When I had the first biopsy I was able to resume shooting two weeks later when I had the stitches taken out.  I'll be going back on June 2nd to get the stitches out this time and then I can shoot it on Saturday June 5th.     :biglaugh:

Dave,

Thanks for the kind comments.  I've gone through around 150 bows, or so, over the past 9 years.  One bow that I never owned was a Schafer Silvertip.  I bought this one used and then had Dave build the new set of Russian Olive limbs.

I've settled on three bows to keep in my quiver.  The Silvertip, a Marriah Thermal that I received new last August and a new Dale Stahl T/D recurve that he is presently building for me.  These bows share some of the same qualities, quality craftsmanship, beautiful bows and shoot quiet, quick and very accurate, more accurate than I can consistently shoot!    "[dntthnk]"

Bjorn,

I asked for 62", 48#@28" +/- 2# with the error being on the bottom end of the scale.  I'm hoping for 46# or 47#@28".  My joints handle those draw weights best.

I'll know for sure when I pick the bow up at The Archery Shop, where I had Beth ship it.

The riser and limbs arrived at The Archery Shop yesterday.  I went to the shop today, assembled the bow and purchased a B50 string from Budro, the owner of the shop.  I had him string the bow up and shoot it.  It flat flings an arrow!  I hope to be able to shoot it in a couple of weeks after my stitches are removed from my shoulder and forearm.

The pics didn't do the Russian Olive veneers justice.  They are a good bit darker than the pics showed.

Beautiful bow, Bill.  So, what made you decide on Russian Olive?  Just curious because there's lots of that tree available for the taking here in New Mexico!  I'm not a bowyer but do work to help clear out the species.  May have finally found a good use for Russian Olive!!  Anyone want to plan a trip & get all you want?

Thanks,
