Tent cot?

Anyone have a tent cot they recommend?  I'm thinking one of the standard ones may be too small for a big guy like me.

They look to be pretty nice if you can haul them around in the truck to campouts.

Get a large COLEMAN air mattress, and a rechargeable air pump. Keep the mattress in its stuff sack and in something that will keep broadheads out of the stuff sack. They last for years if you don't abuse them or blow them up by mouth. (Another cheap thrill...   :rolleyes: )

I have one like your pic. Don't think it's the oversize one, though. I like it. No bar in the middle of your back and when it's warm roll up all the solid windows and get the breeze from all sides. Keeps the bugs out. I have even used mine a few times in 30 degree weather. Woke up with frost on the inside from condensation. For just a few nights it's great. Very comfortable.

Slumberjack $100-120, think its 84"x38", real nice, very comfy, also bought one from Dunhams, same size easy set-up, think it was $45-50, one from dunhams is a bit taller, nice for putting stuff under cot. Todd

I think the tent cot would be great for a daytime nap outside in the shade to keep the bugs/wasps at bay out beside the camper. They are intriguing.

Now that is nice looking. I was always use to a GP medium tent an 10-12 other army cots together. A mosquitoes net, an a army cot, a foam mattress stuffed in a duffel bag.

Apex! If nothing else get a army poncho (liner) camo. Those things are amazing to say the least. They are great for a light blanket. In the summer it's cool, an the winter it warm. Roll it up an throw behind the seat an go. One of those trick of the trade items 101 uses. Reminds me I should buy a new one just to have as a back up for my 20-30 year old ones! LOL

I have had mine for 5 years. It is the original standard size model with only two supports. I am 5'11" tall and 215 pounds and have not felt cramped in it. I have the rain fly and have used it in both very warm and cold temperatures. You can avoid most of the frozen moisture in the winter by using the two small vents at the top of the doors. I like mine a lot as it makes for an easy and simple camp. I would buy one again.

Something else to consider if you are looking to a viable alternative to a tent - a good quality hammock.

Hammocks can be much more comfortable, dryer and more interesting than cots, pads, etc.  There's a bit of a learning curve with them but hammock camping is pretty cool.

I used them for months in a highly saturated Malaria area of Iraq. They are durable, compact, and set up easily. I still use mine at home with a thermarest pad outside when the weathers nice but bugs are biting.

I set mine up on a standard issue army cot, ot you can place it on the ground.

I also use the Hennessy Hammock above, as well as the ENO's, when the mood strikes. Hammock camping IS pretty cool...

Well, I use an XL one I purchased at Sam's, but I think that the XL outfitter one that Cabelas sells would be a very large cot, seen one at the store, seemed huge.
