Summer hat?
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:05:00 PM »
Ok, I am a hat guy. There are plenty of options come fall and winter, but summer hats are few and far between. I often wear a baseball cap but just because thats all i have, my baseball days are long past and i don't like having to constantly think about and reposition the hat when I'm shooting.

It is too hot where I live for anything other than straw and cotton during the summer. So does anyone have some good suggestions for a good summer time shooting cap other than a baseball cap that isn't made of tin cloth or wool?

I would love to find a cotton style jones cap with a short bill.

Tilly bush hat is one that comes to mind.  http://www.noggintops.com/page.cfm?p=57

Many other options available at that site as well.

I just added a good selection of summer hat styles on my website. Check out the Headwear tab on the link below.

I just saw a nice Outdoor Research Bucket hat in a very lightweight material. I almost bought on the spot.

My Trad Gang Do-Rag never go to a shoot or summer hunt without it. They are cheep and if you dip it in water it's just like having air conditioning on the fly, and no stinking hat brim in the way   :banghead:

Hear your pain...I just got a mesh boonie from Cabelas and I think this is going to be a great hat for summer.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Straw sort of Fedora-type from the Wally-world ($5 end of season clearance a couple of years ago).

Pick up a cheap boonie hat at an Army-Navy store, hey they worked in the Jungle!!!!! The brim is short and flexable ,they work for me and you can get them in all kinds of colors or many camo patterns. It will also roll up and slid into your back pocket.

Yep, that's been my favorite so far.  They even have a model with a slightly shorter brim.

Boonie is the only way to go.  Doesn't jack with the string and is cool.  If you get too hot you can dip it in a creek and it is like a swamp cooler.
