3 Rivers Shaggie Ultralite Longcoat?
«
on:
June 01, 2010, 07:03:00 AM »
Originally I was going to get the Rancho Safari but I haven't been able to get in touch with them by phone or email. I am now concidering the 3 Rivers Shaggie Ultralite Longcoat. Has anyone used this setup and what did you think about it?
Thanks

Well, I haven't seen the one you refer to but sounds like it may be made by Rancho Safari. I have Rancho's "Shaggie ultralite longcoat" and love it. Can't imagine 3Rivers would call one by the same name unless it is the same.....Dave

Gil, just checked 3Rivers web site, it says this is the Rancho Safari longcoat that I have--you only need to do a little trimming on the bow arm and you're good to go. If you have your wife or a good friend do that be prepared to get laughed at real good. They do look funny but they are deadly on animals.

I thought it looked just like the Rancho Safari. Thanks I didn't read that in the ad. I looked at the picture and price. I am going to go with that one, since I haven't been able to get in touch with Rancho Safari.
Thanks again
Gil
PS- I have to use my wife and not my friends. My friends are relentless!

Use you friends and let them be relentless. You'll get the last laugh when you have a successful hunting season!

You are right Bill. I can't wait to go into the Ohio woods this fall with my friends, without my tree stand and drag out one of those big Ohio bucks. It won't get any better than that. I am going to keep what I am doing a secret from them and make them beg me to tell them how I did it! Ha!

Does anyone know if they come in green for early season ? I keep looking at the site and it is hard to tell. I have one, but it is in a very light tan color. It has worked WONDERS in leaf down periods, but it really shows up in green leaf time.

I went to rancho safaris' webpage and failed to find my longcoat listed as one of their products. The one offered by 3 rivers isn't the same since it has a hood attached.
I love mine and wouldn't part with it.

I bought mine off of a bowhunter from Alabama who thought it was too hot for his climate. I wait until the temps start to drop somewhat before I start using mine. I can see where the lighter weight ghuillies would be an asset.
Even with this limitation, I still love it.

ChrisM, they are built on a mesh base so there is some breathability. they do add an extra layer of warmth in cold weather but if you just dress lightly in early season you should be fine. Let the Shaggie take the place of the usual top garment.

I hunt in Wisconsin and in our early season it is typically warm, but not 90's. If I wear a camo or brown T shirt as top layer and my regular cotton camo pants, I don't feel uncomfortable. I have the ultra light long suit that comes down just to or past my knees.
I wouldn't let that stop me from trying it.

Well I got in touch with Jerry today and ordered a bunch of stuff. Including the Shaggie Bowhunter Longcoat. Boy was I glad I went through Rancho safari. He is a nice guy and great to talk to. Talked to him a long time.
He mentioned talking to Fred bear and that Fred told him when Michigan passes the use of tree stands he was moving. I can't wait to get back on the ground. I am sick of staring at the same trees in a tree stand. Now the fun begins again.
