Chaparral Archery No Longer In Business
« on: May 04, 2007, 05:44:00 PM »
I just got an email from Bruce Baughn informing me he is no longer in business building bows so my order got cancelled. What a shame. Bruce built a fine Kaibab 2 hybrid longbow.

That's sad to hear.....they made a fine bow and a good price.  I remember shooting one for a week or so, and it was a great shooting bow and a good value.

I hope all is well with them boys.

Here is the email Bruce sent me.

==================================================

To our valued customer :

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that due to unforseen personal circumstances, I am no longer able to build bows. We have had a very successful business over the past 6 years, and it has been customers like you that have helped us achieve this success.

Unfortunately, we have to cancel all outstanding orders. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Once again, we appreciate all the support we have received over the past years.

Thank you

Bruce Baughn

Man oh man what a shame I am truely sorry to here this. What a great couple of folks Bruce and Helga are. I had three of their bows.Bruce built a great bow for the money. Both bows the Alpine recurve and the Kaibab were great bows.

Wow, what a surprise!  I just talked to Helga last week and ordered a spare string for my 60" Kaibab II.  She didn't indicate anything at all to that effect.  I sure hope everything is ok.  I may give her a call.  Still have her cell # in my phone.

That's too bad. I have been wanting an Alpine for a while now. Should not have waited.

Me too, and I have her cell phone number too.  Instead of all of us calling and bothering them, how about posting on here if you find anything out. My wife and I have three Kaibabs that we really love.  Great people too, I just hope nothing personal happened.  Bill G.

sorry to hear that, just bought a used Kaibab a couple of months ago and have really enjoyed it, great bows at very reasonable prices

hope I'm not some kind of jinx---my favorite bow is a Shadow Eclipse and he's not making bows anymore either (course that happened before i got mine)

Man oh Man, I was going to order a second bow from him shortly. I really love my Kaibab. I hope that it is not health related and that Bruce and Helga are alright.

I'm not giving up on having a Kaibab built. As I understand it, Bruce was building the Kaibab, but the Kaibab isn't Bruce's design. It is John Fazio's design and John is the bowyer for Sovereign Archery. I've got Sovereign's phone number and later on today, I'm going to call John, since the Kaibab is his design and see if he will build me a Kaibab. John builds the Sonoran longbow, but it looks more like a longbow than the hybrid Kaibab. I don't shoot "D" shaped longbows well. I "REALLY" want a Kaibab.........bad! LOL

Well, I just called Helga, and she said everything was fine.  She wasn't forthcoming with anything further, so I guess it's just one of those personal situations which seem to crop up in our lives...
Best wishes to them
Dan
