Tamarack arrows

I just finished these this morning. Great wood for making arrows...HEAVY arrows! haha These have 160gr tips. The shafts are 11/32" tapered to 5/16" and they came out to 720gr and are 77#-79# spine weight.  They fly great out of my 60#@28" recurve. I believe these could be my elk hunters!

Thanks guys. I have a lot of room for improvement. Seems each batch I build I think of how I could improve.  Already have plans for trying something new. This batch I discovered I could strip the white (less mature feathers with thinner membrane) for the spliced ends. That came out pretty good. I just haven't been able to strip the natural barred feathers without them breaking...? I think it is because they are dyed and made from a more mature feather.

You have a knack for making me happy that I gave something away. Or did I make you pay for them? I forget.

The longer a feather has been off the bird, the harder it is to strip it. The feather dries out and makes the membrane bind to the quill. Maybe the dyeing process does that too, I don't know.

Love those arrows. I still have to get me some shafts.

Killie, I believe those nocks were part of a trade we did.  

I hope to post a picture this fall of a beautiful majestic wapiti that fell to one of these arrows...that would be a true blessing!

I use Minwax "English Chestnut" for the stain Igor. The larch wood isn't a regular item for Surewood. Larch is an eastern Oregon tree. It would take too much in effort and cost to go that far for arrow wood. I just lucked into some.
