From recurve to longbow in one afternoon

After a long awaited visit, I finally met with Tom Parsons of Kimsha this evening.  Besides multiple form issues he made me aware of, I got to shoot my first longbows.  After two years of exclusive recurve shooting I made a powerful discovery;  I am now a longbow lover.  Until today, I've never shot a bow that makes absolutely no noise.
He said that if he could get me back over to his place once or twice he could tighten up my form even more.  So, I pick up my new 62" D-shaped Mattawoman sometime after he gets back from Michigan. I took no money on purpose to prevent a divorce.  Plus, it forces me to make the drive again. I can't wait.  This has changed how I look at archery once again.  Thanks Tom.

No doubt about those longbows being quiet.  I have a couple of R/D longies that aren't as quiet as a D bow but still great shooters and fund to shoot.

I shot three r/d's before the D-bow.  When I let that first arrow go, something magical happened.  
I thought I didn't like low wrist grips and come to find out I haven't been holding the bow right anyway.  I have so many things to work on until our next meeting.

I have a Mattawomen Longbow like just spits an arrow like no other. Put a heavy arrow on her a she is dead silent and performs like many R/D bows of even higher weight. Light in the hand,silent, and Tom Is a nice guy to talk to besides. I met him a Comptons 2 years ago, a true gentleman!! Enjoy!!

I made the switch about 6 years ago, and it was well worth it.  I love the look feel, and especially the cast of the longbow.

Yes I too just made the switch from recurve to longbow.

Now I have to trade my selway Recurve slide-ons for longbow ones!

But a small price to pay for the noise reduction in my opinion.

Me too and welcome! I swore by recurves for years then grabbed my longbow that had been sitting around and haven't looked back yet! "D" shape when strung of course!

Same exact thing here. Longbow = way better shooting for me. I wanna know WHY?

able to cast an extreamly heavier arrow with much more accuracy.  Not sure why, just know it does.

Longer limbs make for a more forgiving bow.  Which means minor form errors do not show up as much with longer limbs.  I love my longbows for the silent shot with a heavy arrow.  No stacking at my 30 + inch draw length, etc....

I am more accurate with the recurve, but I always go back to my longbow.  The only real change I have to make is to sure I am using a low wrist grip on the longbow, and everything else works the same.

Hoping to sell my last recurve while at Compton next week .  After 35yrs with a recurve I am going with longbows also.

Yumpteen years ago, I wanted to shoot a longbow. No one I knew owned one, much less shot one. There was one hanging in a hardware store in a small town nearby.  The owner allowed me to shoot it one afternoon and since that day I've been hooked on longbows. There has never been a more pure shooting weapon ever designed.

There's a certain romance to the simplicity of it both in form and feeling, which I do not get with the recurves I own.

I shot one of my 'curves last evening.......not the same.  Should have brought her home with me.  Oh well, time to sell the Widows.
