Best hog hunting
« on: June 13, 2010, 10:56:00 AM »
I have a feeling that this could open up a can of worms, but were is the best hog hunting in Texas or in the south east? Or am I over looking a honey hole?
Proverbs 12:27
The lazy do not roast any game,
but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

For me Texas! You have Hogs and Javelins, There are some free hunting places and some pay, also most leases have hogs.

I keep hearing that there is a problem in Michigan.  I think they are giving it so much hype to get people to kill what few are actually out there before it gets to be a huge problem like you all have in the south.  I for one would like them to prosper...more hunting opportunities for all who want to persue them.

There are hogs all over the state of texas.  The most dense concentrations are along the major rivers.  They will roam all over when there has been a lot of rain, but they always have to come back to the water that lasts year round.

Public land isn't necessarily year round.  A lot of public places either make you hunt hogs during deer season, or anytime but deer season.

I'm partial to my own piece of hog heaven...California. But, since you are in NY I'd say go down to Ray's. I've heard nothing but good there. If I didn't have my own pig problem I probably would have made the trip already.

There's an awful lot of hogs in fl. and on open public land. I know a guy I used to hunt around in Greenswamp WMA and he targeted hogs, but would shoot deer also if one came down a hog trail. He killed 30 something hogs on that open public land..in one season..this was with a modern rifle, but that's still a lot of hogs. Another guy killed 18 that same season. I'd quit hunting hogs back then, unless it was a female and real close to a rd I wouldn't shoot it.

You can get on them and stay with them a few days before they will spook of. Then you just find them again.

I hope it's Ray H.'s place. I'm headed there in January!!!! Can't wait... if it's half as much as Izzy says I'll be a happy camper!!

Hunt East TX. Don't mess with Javelinas......East TX is easy to get to, BOATLOADS of hogs, and no West TX dust. The tradeoff will be mosquitoes!

We are overrun down here. I now regularly see dead hogs on the side of the highway, hit by vehicles. This has started happening in the last year or so.
