Anyone else here in law enfocement?
« on: June 15, 2010, 02:31:00 PM »
I just "graduated" from the detention setting out to patrol with the Sheriffs' department.  Just wondering how many fellow cops are trad shooters.

I'm neighberhood speed patrol. These redneck NASCAR fans drive too fast on my road and I let them know it. Does that count?

That's awesome!  I only have to put in 18 before full retirement.  I started late (was a pastor for a while).  Almost 40 and showin the young guys a thing or two.
Owlbait- just mark their cars with a paintball gun as they drive by.  Easier to ID that way.  (just kidding).

Trad shooting seems to help diffuse the stress from the job.  Except when I cant hit the target, then it only builds. :-)

Any other advice for an "old rookie", working in a large county with a blend of quiet agricultural communities and miniature "gangland" trying to establish itself?

18 years and counting. Currently a patrol sergeant for Mono County Ca. Worked in Utah also as a State Trooper and PD officer.

Be proactive in the community. Address the little problems so they don't get to be big problems....your best weapon is your mind. Have something to look forward to off duty. Hunting has been a saving grace for me and shooting my longbows and recurves is therapy for my soul.

Retiring in 11 days. Remember to keep a scrapbook of newspaper clippings, commendations, recommendations, etc...
Believe me you will look back 22 years from now, and see that you did make a difference.
Also treat everyone with respect, even the bad guys-before and after arresting/dealing with them (but always remember Officer safety!).
God Bless, and be safe.
May Saint Michael watch over and protect you.
