Limb bolts like on a ChekMate?
« on: May 06, 2007, 10:40:00 PM »
Anyone have any experience making flush limb bolts like on a ChekMate (some others as well)?  It's where they don't use the bezel, but build up the butt of the limb with phenolic, wood and/or maybe fiberglass and countersink the beveled bolt into the limb.  Makes for a very smooth looking limb IMHO.  Thanks,  Steve

A countersink boring tool of the right angle and a drill press. Trial and error to get the depth set right. Bore a bit and check etc. till you get deep enough. I would not do it without the phenolic to add strength. Thats a fairly high loaded spot on the limb.

"I think steve Gore was the first."

For what its worth, Chek-Mate actually makes Steve's bows.

Keith:

This is what he's referring to.

This happens to be a Chek-Mate Firebird with the limbs mounted on the back side of the riser, but I think you will get the idea.

Crooked stic,

I figured that was a way to do it, have you actually made a bow like that?

Here's another photo of my old 56" Hunter with the flush limb bolt.
