Bad storm heading towards Comptons..need a favor
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:19:00 PM »
Hey if anyone knows a vendor or people attending Comptons, could you give them a heads up that a very nasty storm is heading their way? My daughter took off with the cell phone so I don't have a way to contact them.

I know last year they got surprised and with the way the weather looks right now, it may surprise them again. Should touch their area around 6:30pm tonight. Thanks!!
Just one more step please!

Hope all goes as well as can be...

That is good news. I thought soemone might have info on it but better to be safe.   ;)   Would hate to see all those pretty bows get damaged, LOL!    Just kidding, I hope everyone finds adaquate cover.

Right now it's sunny and 87 degrees, doesn't even look like a storm will be here in an hour.

It's the hot sunny days that helps power those awful thunderstorms!

My heart goes out to those in the upper midwest that suffered through 63 separate tornadoes last evening. I thank God that the loss of life was as low as it turned out.

Tonight it's likely to be a repeat of last night!

Please take care, everything but human life is just stuff even if it is pretty, it's still just stuff!

My prayers are for any and all that could be in harms way.

God bless,Mudd

We got an early warning on the courses around 4 so a lot of notice.  Venters were packing up some around 5.  We headed home just as the first edge of the lighter stuff hit just after about 5:30.  So far the big warnings look like they will hit just past them as it builds in-land.

I lost this post twice due to the power going out.  We got home 10 minutes before the wind front hit kalamazoo. WE are 10 minutes from the biggest core of the storm and right in the line.

Prayers were on the way for everyone at Compton as we raced aheard of the storm.

Looks like only yellow stuff and no large red stuff hit Compton.  A big green area of rail will soak them, but I hope they missed the most serious stuff.

Got to get read for the hit.

It didn't hit as bad as it looked here.  The wind front was bad, but the core storm wasn't as bad as it looked, We have a good wind break of woods and other things that help us at the house.

I am watching three different radar sources.  They look a little different.  I watched my phone on the way home to track it, but I don't know now for sure now how they did because that radar doesn't look as bad as the others.

There is another storm building that doesn't look very good.  It is about 4-hours from Comptons, and looks to be on track for them.  Hard to say what the lake will do and what the storm will do when it hits land.  The first one broke up some after it got inland a ways.

Could be a long night.  Keep the prayers going.

We got hit pretty good and it's still coming. went from 87 to 75 in about two seconds when it arrived.  News 8 said 65mph wind gusts along 131 and power outages. Ours went off for a second.

Hope all is well for our brothers and sisters overnight!!

Another one on it's way, It is supposed to be here within the hour in north central Illinois and moving in the same direction as the last.  We had roofs ripped off of buildings and trees down everywhere.  The weather service said 70-80 mph winds the first time and are calling for the same in the second round...

Just talked to Bill Dunn up at Compton a few minutes ago. He said the winds were pretty strong at 40 to 50 miles an hour and saw a large pine tree snapped off and in the road. All is good with them at the hotel they are staying at this evening.

40-50 is not good, but way better than the 70 mph winds they were talking about.

Arwin I think you guys got lucky.  They say it died down when it hit Barry Co. Sure looks like it cranked up when it got mid state.  The east side is really lit up on the radar.

Northern IN looks to have gotten some strong stuff that didn't break up.

I left at around 4:00 p.m. and a friend was just arriving to camp. I called him when I got home after checking the radar and told him to pack his tent up and find real cover.

He hasn't updated me since but from the sounds of it, everything is okay so far.

Boy was it hot today. My sweat was sweating and I almost jumped into the creek.

Talk was that the second wave was going to be much worse than the first, but I think mostly passed just south of us. Either that or I slept right through it.
Some of the outside vendors lost tents during the 1st storm but the big tent stayed up. I haven't walked down there but it sounds like there were quite a number of downed tents/canopies in the main camping area. Up here in canvas tent city all is well. Pyramids and tipis rule in the wind!

Be back there in about a half hour.  Sounds like it was not near as bad as last year.
