Feather Chopper LW/RW?
« on: June 19, 2010, 11:27:00 PM »
Why can't I use my LW Little Chopper to chop RW feathers?  Am I missing something?  The suppliers say to specify R or L but my LW  chopper seems to cut RW feathers fine.

Mine cutts both just fine. No specifics on LW or RW. Banana cuts.

Hope you get it worked out, Jeff

I think the Banana Chopper is a symmetrical cut so it doesn't matter.  I'm just wondering why they make both RW and LW choppers for the other asymmetrical designs--I use traditional.  Mine (I assume is a LW)seems to cut my RW or LW feathers fine, like Eric says.  So why do they make both RW and LW?  Is it just marketing so they can sell us two choppers instead of just one?

It's easier to hold the feather in place with the same wing feather and chopper. You can use the catch lip to hold in place. Hap

Hap,

You are exactly right as I have learned this afternoon while fletching a dozen arrows for the Colorado Traditional Archers Society shoot next weekend.  The 'L' shaped lip faces down when using the wrong wing chopper.  It works but, it makes it harder to hold the feather in place and get a good consistent chop.  After this, I will either buy a right wing chopper or use my burner for RW feathers.  BTW, I do use my LW Bitzenberger clamp and index with a RW clamp and do just fine glueing feathers.

Mike
