Screw in tip shooters
« on: June 22, 2010, 06:06:00 PM »
If you shoot a screw in tip and hunt small game, how would you like to try one of these. I already know that they work ok on wooden arrows as long as you don't hit something hard like rocks, then they tend to snap my shaft off right at the end of the ferrel.

I would love for a few guys that shoot screw-in to take these and put a steel adpter in them and see how they hold up.

There are 4 large and 3 small.Just another example of Mudd re-inventing the wheel..lol

I can't tell they affect flight but I am shooting them with Flu-Flu's. I intended them for tree chickens.

How much do they weigh?  I am sure they would fly fine to about 30 yards after that I bet the arrows drop like a stone.

They do drop off but that's what I wanted them to do which is also why I mounted them on Flu-Flu's.

My tree chicken hunting is up close and personal..lol

As soon as I can pick up more batterys for my digital scale I'll let you know. When I made these I didn't own one and just never thought about weighing them until now.

"I would love for a few guys that shoot screw-in to take these and put a steel adapter in them and see how they hold up."

I was hoping that at least a couple of brave(Screw-in-tip shooter) souls would want to give these a try.

Ideally I'd like to send two of the large to two different people and the 3 small ones to another.

I do love to shoot tree rats and now they opened the season from mid-June to Feb 28th.  WOO-HOO!!
I will shoot you a PM with my address.  I just make some carbons for shooting tree rats.  It should work out nicely.

Mudd, I  shoot screw-in heads with washers just behind the head. Doing it that way saves time and doesn't require welding, plus you can add additional washers. Right now I have two setup that weigh 215 grains. They hit hard, but I don't know what they will do to squirrels or rabbits. In Mississippi you can't hunt small game on public lands with broad heads, only points. For me it is cheaper than paying for two or three judo points to make my own with field points and washers. I'm sure I haven't struck upon a new idea unknown to others.

I knew from the out set that this wheel had already been rolled a round a time or tow..lol I just had these extras and thought that if someone hadn't tried them before, here was their chance.

bornagainbowhunter  I'll check my pm's. Did you tell me which size?

Mudd, I forgot to mention that I glue the washers together before placing them behind the field point. I like to use washers that fit snug around the field point. I like to use the saunder combo points because they do have some penetration capabilities. If you don't have a taker on the smaller variety of heads you prepared PM me and I will send you my address.

OK The large are going to Bornagainbowhunter and the smaller ones are going to RonD.

The larger ones weigh out in the mid-280's and the smaller ones are 218.

RonD please pm or e-mail me your shipping address.

God bless

just use a washer over the male threads of the field point. Get 20 for $1 and you can remove them and go back to field points.
Until next time...good shooting,
Lee

Lee, if you are going to use field points with washers, use the saunder combo points because they have at least some penetration. Unfortunately in Mississippi small game on WMAs can only be hunted with points, no broad heads. I don't know if you remember we used to hunt Dahomey NWR for small game with trad gear. The management there stopped that some time back prohibiting all small game hunting with archery equipment. After months of working with the USF&W at Grenada they are reinstituting the small game season with archery gear beginning the 2010-2011 season. The major difficulty of that on the NWR is that it is currently overrun with hogs and rattlesnakes. The rules on the NWR stipulate that you can hunt hogs during any open season with the gear deemed legal for that season. Can you imagine shooting a hog with points, let alone expecting to kill them. That I am also working on through the USF&W to get it changed from points to broad heads. The difficult part may be getting them to add rattlesnake to the hunting schedule as an addendum to any open season. The government is a slow arduous process when it comes to getting anything changed. Patience is the key.

check these out guys. they are called VB's (varmint busters) they work quite well! simply put them behind a screw in field point. i just grind my points a little to allow for the weight of the VB meaning that i still have the total point weight i need.  http://www.bigcountrybowhunting.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=2
