I am shooting after FITA rules and we shot trad at a maximum distance of 22 yards in Norway, but in international classes in Europe we shoot to a maximum distance of 33 yards.
We also have a maximum poundage of bow at 60# and wooden arrows.

Some shoots have the acreage to allow shots of 80 yards or more. That's about what this bear was, the bucks were at about thirty, I think.

Why? It's all good fun!

I have seen shots up to 80-100 yards at the bigger targets.

Pope and Young has 110 and 180 yard shoots taken at wands set in large circles to simulate shooting out of a castle and into a castle.  Otherwise 80 yards is the longest I have seen.  It was at a Moose target.

I go to a lot of different events in many states.
Generally, unless it is a novelty target, most shots are from about 17-28 yds or so. A long shot might be 35-45 at a buffalo, elk or other larger target.

Here in the UK the main field archery organisation is the NFAS, there is no maximum distance. Most will be between 20-35 yards but on occasion we have 100+ yards for some of the bigger stuff.

I had one in the last shoot I was in where I took a long step with my foot still on the stake and stabbed it arrow never cleared the riser - figured what the heck might as well take a gimmy.
