Dave, it was good to finally meet you in person at Compton. It does not get -30 here in TN, however Dave is right...... Ullfrotte' all the way for us ! We hunted three days in a row here and it was 5-9 degrees in the morning. We wore 400 gr Ullfrotte' for a base layer, then one 100 % merino wool Goodwill sweater, then Predator 380gr fall gray fleece over that top and bottom. Predator fleece beenie hat, chemical handwarmers, and Lacrosse Alpha Lite 7MM neoprene boots. We stayed on stand for 4 hrs and were comfy.
We used to wear military surplus polypro cause the factory was 30 miles from our house. We could get a top and bottom for $20. Yes, it was pretty good stuff but once you get it sweated up you cannot hardly get the scent out of it. It also has a narrow comfort range. Pretty good walking slowly to your stand in the morning, not good coming out at noon and 50 degrees !
One of the best features of wool is the large comfort range. I did the sniff test in the pit area of the top after 2-3 hunts and no odor ! My only regret is not buying Ullfrotte' sooner ! Yes a top and bottom is $150 but given proper care it will last a lifetime. Best $$$ I ever spent.... JMHO
