Majority of carbide quick sharpeners work great on Phantoms. Redi edge from cabelas worked best.

I use the KME sharpener, razor sharp in no time at all. Look under the "sponsor list" for the web site.

I use a basic $7 sharpener from Cabela's... 3-4 nice smooth strokes shaved hair before I went to my stand last season... great heads!

I use a steel to sharpen them, a couple times across and they will pop hair off your arm with lite pressure.

Muzzy Phantoms are made of Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel is Softer than most steels. This may be your problem. I use them exclusively, and a good carbide sharpener does well followed by a fine honing stone.

Thanks everybody, I'll give it another shot with some of your help. Could be that they are stainless, none of my others are. If I still have trouble's I will take you up on the call Jake. I have never had problems like this before with shapening, (just ask anybody that has hunted with me. Allways seems the first day in camp I am "touching" up all there broadheads!)Good to hear they are a bit notoriosly though to sharpen. I was starting to think I was loosing my touch!

Dan,
The steel in the Phantoms is very good. It's similar to the stainless used by other BHD manufacturers. The thing to keep in mind is those deeply vented blades flex very easily when pressure is applied from the side like when we're sharpening them. Use a very light touch and just about any stone will get em tuned. Push too hard and you can grind the blades away and never get them sharp. Let us know how you do.

I tried everything with no sucess until I found the KME at ETAR. Now within 5 minutes I got all 4 blades hair popping sharp. I really didn't think i could get a broadhead that sharp but with the KME and light even pressure there isn't a hair left on my forearms by the beginning of hunting season. LOL

Muzzy Phantom have a steeper blade angle then standard blades and that can cause some trouble as you are trying to reshape the blade angle instead of sharpening up the blade edge. We do use a hardened SS for the blades, same material we use for all our blades.
The angle is close to 30 degrees and yes our new sharpener works very well and has the correct angle for the blades. But if you have another system, just use a sharpie to mark up the edge of the blades so you can see where you are removing material from and adjust your angle for that. Good luck!

Once you get these things sharp, lookout!!! I had a pass through on almost every deer shot last season. The one that didn't was because the broadhead went through part of the shoulder on the opposite side and got stuck.
I used a standard kitchen knife sharpener going from the back forward. I found I have a sweet spot on my sharpener that touches the blades up in a few swipes.
I'm thinking about going back to them this fall. Like the 220 grain minus the bleeders(200 grains). They did quite the job on Large Marge.
