190 gr too much??
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:43:00 PM »
This year I am shooting a 55# recurve.  I draw 29".  Would a 190 gr broadhead be too much weight?
Thanks, Jonathan

On what arrow? Is your bow cut before center or to center?I have a Hornes Brushbow cut before center 52 #s at my 27" draw I shoot 2016 aluminuns with 175 grain heads and 35/55 gold tip traditional carbons cut 27 5/8 with 250 grains up front. There is more you have to tell us.My Bud Bucky shoots Mahaska recurves with 1916 aluminums 250 grains up front his bow is cut before center also.It should not be too much weight on the correct arrow.

That would depend on your arrow spine instead of your bow weight.I often hunt with 190-200 grain points from my 45lb bows but the arrows are spined for them.

No not too much, with a properly spined shaft that would be fine.  Lot's of other little factors to consider depending on your bow and what you are hunting.

Lets back track a bit. If your bow right now is properly tuned ,arrows are properly spined, and shoot fine with the present heads which are???? The easiest thing to do is buy  a 190 grain field tip if you can  and try it.What are your present heads now?

I am shooting 2020's with 150 grain points right now, and they fly well.

The more weight up front the better off you will be as long as your arrow flys great.. I shoot 200 gr up front on a 2018 out of a 56# Horne Traditionlist
