We went to a shoot this weekend and setup as a vendor.  There were only three of us and about 150 shooters showed.  Was it a finacial success?  Probably not.  But is was fun and a very good shoot.  Not every shoot draws thousands.

My Dad said Grayling was a whole lot better than Compton..at least for shooting.

Compton seemed like the Kalamazoo show with a larger range. I didn't really want to shoot when I was there, just look at stuff.

I would say those prices are well matched and in some cases a bit lower than what we pay out west to shoot on a 3D weekend.  I never fret about the price of a shoot.  It is how the clubs survive to put on more shoots.  I am grateful to have a shooting opportunity withing driving distance most weekends of the summer.

How cool is it to have Don Thomas and Ron Laclair on the same thread!  All we need is Barry Wensel or Charlie Lamb to chime in and we would have a trifecta of Bowhunting awesomeness!  Just be glad you have shoots in driving distance to you.  Just like Ragnarok Forge said in his post above.

I've been going to the MTB Jamboree for at least 10 years and I can't say that I've noticed a whole lot of change during that time.  People need to understand that this is a laid back event with much lower attendance than the big shoots in Michigan.  How can you beat the camping at the Jamboree?  You just pull up and pick a spot.  Gather wood as you like, come and go as you like.  I was really bummed that my family voted me down and opted for the pool at the Jellystone over the Jamboree.   :knothead:

I'm sure there were more vendors before Compton started having there shoot the weekend before.  I don't really worry about the vendor attendance that much when there is Kazoo in the winter and I can order stuff online so easily all year long.

This is the shoot that is penciled in every year on our calendar because my family and I enjoy the shoot and the Grayling area so much.  I like the big 2D targets that can usually contain the arrows of my wife and kids.   :biglaugh:

See you at Compton LONGBOWSFOX.  I think a guy that shouts negative comments about good folks like the MTB in a public forum is probably not going to appreciate the aspects of the Jamboree that I enjoy.

If you're a Michigander, and a Traditional Archer, you have to appreciate the fact that this shoot takes place on what I consider hallowed ground. It's not about the shopping, it's about the camraderie of like minded individuals in a place where so much of our history occured.

At least it is good enough to keep an 11 year old's attention

We are happy to have the opportunity to go to Grayling...THANK YOU MTB!!!

And it is only fitting to give your regular bow the weekend off to bring an old Super Kodiak  home.

Forgot the big hill; Dall, Stone, and Bighorn sheep on the way up and down with a couple of goats at the very top.  This is the  least crowded section of the course   :D

Those are some AWESOME looking targets.
What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

What a beautiful place! Whoever is painting those targets is to be praised and petted and fed dainties to... they are magnificent. Are there any shots of the camping area?

What a treat to see such an area being used so kindly, and traditions being enjoyed and honored.

Sorry Killdeer, no pics of the camping area.  It's a wooded setting that was once an established campgound with numbered sites and electrical hook-ups.  Really nice to have some shade compared to the camping areas at the other shoots I've been to.

Here's a pic from the top of the hill(ignore this the poor form of this hapless archer.    :)    )

Here's one from the bottom of the hill.  I think I've established that the 2D shoot and the hill are two of my favorite parts of this shoot by now.      :biglaugh:

I didn't know about this shoot, but thanks to this thread I do now!

Northern MI is a wonderful place.  If my work schedule allows, I would drive the 7-8 hours from here for that shoot.

One of these years I should really just stay the week after Compton and combine both into one trip.  Looks like a really good shoot to me.

DID YOU DRIVE TO THE GRAYLING FOR HOURS TO SEE THE SHOW AND SHOOT LIKE I DID ????? NO SKI DENTON OR COMPTON OR MICH LONGBOW. 7 VENDORS AND 3 OF THEM WEREN'T EVEN ARCHERY VENDORS. I'M NOT EVER GOING AGAIN. SEE YOU ALL AT COMPTON WHERE THERE IS SOMETHING TO SEE AND DO. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! "

You aren't coming back? Oh no, what will we all do?

Grayling is a GREAT shoot, some of my best times ever have been spent with my family and friends roaming the hills and woods of the histric site, shooting at art quality handpainted targets.

While I dearly love Compton and the GLLI, the MTB Jamboree is special. Everything doesn't need to be a shopping spree.
