Mike,
There are several pieces of public land to hunt, but as are most places......you have to be careful and not leave things out that you want to keep. The hunting here is good.......but it seems to me that the DNR manages the deer herd for "quantity" instead of "quality". That being said, if you ever want to come down and hunt for a few days, I have access to a couple pieces of private land that we can "explore".
texas woody,
All of these pictures were taken in either Wood or Wirt county. I spent my first 17 years of life living in a little place called Slate. The pictures were either taken on Slate Creek Road in Wood County.......or Tuckers Creek Road in Wirt County.
Most of the old Westvaco land here is now "leased" up by hunting clubs, and it is very hard to have any access to it without being a member of the club. I don't belong to any of them but still have one relative that has a pretty good sized chunk of land here in WV. It doesn't get any pressure in bow season, but gun season is another story all together.
All that being said........West "by God" Virginia truly is a beautiful state and I'm proud to call myself a West Virginian.
