150's or 250's
« on: July 07, 2010, 12:36:00 PM »
I am wanting to try some carbons for an upcoming elk hunt.  I would like to try the Carbon express Heritage series.  I can't decide whether I would should buy 150's or 250's.  I shoot a 55# @ 28", Mohawk longbow, drawn to 28".  I usually shoot 190gr points and was going to add a steel adapter to make it about 300gr.  I have looked at a lot of old posts and seem to find people shooting both at that weight.

It depends on where you want to cut your arrows. I shot 250's cut to 30" out of a very similar setup with success when I had about 225 grains up front.  I would think with the weight you are considering up front, the 250's would work for you. But, if you want a 29" arrow, the 150's would probably be a better choice.  In my experience, I tend to usually settle for the arrow that is weaker in spine with my longbows and get along better.  Unfortunately, the only way to know is to try both! If you can't do that, my personal choice would be to go with the 250's and cut them no shorter than 30" and add the weight up front you are planning to add.  Good luck!

Out of my 56# Griffin, I shoot 150's, 29.5" with about 200 up front with very good results. I draw an even 28. If you are wanting a higher FOC, or heavier arrow, the 250s might be the ticket.

Not shooting the CX Heritage but I'm  shooting a CX Terminator Select that has a defection of .397".  I believe the CX Heritage 250 is 0.373.  I'm using a 100 gr brass insert w/ 125 gr steel adapter and 160 gr point.  Arrow is 29-7/16" BOP.  Total arrow weight is 678 gr, 28% EFoC.  Shoots like a lazer guided rocket in my 53# Griffin.

If going with the Heritage I'd look at the 250.

I like the 250s cut to 30 inches or so with the point weight you are looking at using.

I'm shooting 250s, 29.25" with 295 up front. 27" draw from a Mojostik. 54lbs. @ 27".  It's an awesome setup.

I'm shooting 250's, full length, 5" 3 fletch, I draw 31 1/2" which translates to around 55# out of the bow that I am shooting. I shoot 145 grain fieldpoints/145 grain bear razorheads and they shoot like a dream. From what I understand carbon arrows tend to be a bit stiffer in spine, so I would start out with them longer then you think you would need. I have also been told by many that carbon arrows like alot of weight up front, but I can't confirm this, just what I have been told. I am planning on trying heavier heads sometime just to see what they do, although I have no desire to ever quit shooting the old Bear razorheads, I'm just curious!  :)

Thanks for all the replies, I will definitely go with the 250's or an equivalent spine,
