Made some gear...with an African flavour
« on: July 10, 2010, 02:38:00 PM »
Hi all,

I’ve got a new bow on the way so decided to make a few bits and pieces to welcome it. The bow case is made from giraffe skin (the orange colour leather) with elephant skin accents. The dark armguard on the left is made from elephant skin, and the tan coloured one from hippo skin.

I love the character, cuts and scratches in game skin leather!

Broadhead wallet is made from goat skin, and the string keeper from elephant skin...still needs some cord attached to it though.

The next three pics were done by two local artists, I supplied the leather but they did the artwork. I was thinking of stitching the embossed “badges” into armguards, or maybe onto another bow bag if I make one.

The paintings are really cool, from a distance they look completely lifelike. Im a bit afraid of actually using the armguards though and scuffing the paint...anyone know of a way to protect the artwork, maybe with a thinned down varnish or similar?

Hope you enjoyed!

Absolutely stunning. You and the others are very talented indeed. Varnish used by oil painters on canvas should work on the arm guard art work also.
