Cool gift from deep in the heart of Texas
« on: May 10, 2007, 08:31:00 AM »
There was a notice in my mailbox yesterday that I had a parcel waiting for me at the post office.Wasn't expecting anything, so I drove down there full of apprehension.

They handed me a 3 cornered cardboard box about 4" across each face, and 3 feet long.

Upon getting home I opened the box and slid out one of the neatest arrows I have ever had the pleasure to hold. A gift from local philosopher, writer, guide and hog hunter extaordinair Curtis "Littlefeather" Kellar.

The beauty is in the details. The arrow is of tonkin cane, weighing just over 500 grains on my scale

The nock is antler, thread wrapped for safety and beauty

The wild turkey feather fletch from a turkey killed by his wife

The nodes are nearly invisible being the same size as the cane itself, and the arrow has a nice gloss sealing finish on it

the arrow is tipped with a beautiful flint head which came from another trad ganger Danny Rowan and is sinew wrapped where it should be, at the leading edge of the feathers and at the point.

The arrow is straight and hard and the epitome of a primitive hunting arrow produced by someone who obviously knows what he is doing. A true work of art.

Thanks CK                :notworthy:

Yep that is a beautiful arrow.  I was supposed to hand carry it to MoJam for you but didn't feel right making you wait that long, so I trusted USPS.  Glad it made it there in one piece.

Wish I could make arrows like that.  Better stick with bows though.

Mike
Glad you went ahead and mailed it Mike. Mojam can be so hectic that one doesn't get to spend the proper amount of time examining/savoring things. I sat down with a cup of hot tea yesterday and studied this arrrow for a loooong time. Gosh what a beautiful example of the arrowsmiths art. I kept running my fingers over the nodes and looking at that antler nock from all angles. I love the color of the head and simply must learn how to knap. I love this stuff (as you know from having been in my trophy room ha ha). What a gift.

Glad you like the arrow Micky! The shaft man is Chris Cade. He does an outstanding job getting these babies tempered and straightened. I'm just the assembly guy on this project. Again, glad you like it! CK

Congratulations Ferret! Awesome arrow for sure.

Only from what I have read on here and your own site Mickey, the arrow could not have gone to a more deserving person. Thanks for sharing so much with so many!

Al I'll tell ya the truth. It seems the more you give, the more you get and I'm sure any of the others on here can tell you that. I have been so blessed with neat handmade stuff given freely, that if I never recieve another thing AND help others until I die, I will not have broken even. Special place this!

Thanks for the kind words.

Very, very cool gift!    And a great addition to your trophy room.

For those of you who would like to have a Littlefeather arrow of your own (Vance???  :saywhat:  ) pay attention to the St. Jude's auction.  CK donated the arrow that he used to take "Lumpy" the doe with last year - you may recall the story that went with it.  I have made a display board, and it will be matched up with a couple of other highly collectable arrows for your bidding pleasure  :D

I just need to get some pictures taken and descriptions written and will list them soon.

Very, very nice!! Mickey, after having met you at Wheeling, and spending a few minutes with you, I realized you are as cool in person as on here. Very deserving.

CK, that is a work of art!!
