Question about a crack in the glass by the insert of my old bear
«

I just picked up this 70's grizzly. The glass is cracked by the threaded insert. Should I be concerned or is this normal wear for a bow this age? Is it safe to shoot/hunt with. Any help would be appreciated. Here are a few pictures.

You should be able to use some Superglue and let it wick its way into the crack. It should be OK to shoot after the glue dries. This is how I would fix it. Good luck.

I have a similar crack in a Martin Hunter just like that----at the stabilizer insert. It happened after a rain-soaked hunt on the Pali in Hawaii. I understand water gets in at the insert and swells the wood there, causing the crack.

Thanks for the replies, I have a few more questions. Should the bow be strung when I apply the glue? Should I try to just get the glue in the crack in the fiber glass or in the hole around the insert as well? Thanks again.

I would try to pull the insert if you can. Put a bolt in it and then use a torch to heat the bolt. You should be able to remove it, and then use the super glue in the crack from both sides. When you put the insert back in use epoxy which should help seal the opening and prevent moisture from working its way back in there again.

Thanks everyone, I will try your recommendations. This is a nice old grizzly that I hope to have as my dedicated bow fishing setup. Hope I can get it fixed up. Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
