stump shooting perfect pratice
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:49:00 PM »
I went on my first stumping outing of the year yesterday and boy I certainly realize alot of the advantages of stump shooting.  For some reason I started shooting alot better. I was able to concentrate on my form and just hitting what im looking at.  I get tired of shooting my target, walking back forth pulling arrows and shooting the same spot.  I think my concentration on form and picking a spot decreases rapidly when im just shooting the target over and over.  When im out there stump shooting it seems like everything comes together and i quit worry about the little stuff and just shoot my natural shot focusing soley on what im looking at.  I just thought Id share that with yal and see if there is anyone else that thinks this too. Thanks

Aside from shooting in my backyard at leaves, dandelions etc...Stump shooting in the woods at anything from unknown distances and from different angles is the only way I practice.

I know what you mean,I started stump shooting this spring for the firsttime and can,t believe how its improved my shooting.Don,t care to shoot at targets any more..Now I just pick a leave ,stump, small grass clump and zero-in and let the arrow fly.Seems alot more than not it would be a kill-shot!!!!!

Plus you're IN THE WOODS. Feels good to be back, can't help but notice a bit of sign here and there as well as that different distances thing - Only way to go, practice-wise.

Stumpin is the best practice you can get in my opinion, I just need to breakout and do more.

I've been stumping for over 19 years now and it's the most legal fun I know of. It never seems to get old and is the best practice for hunting I've tried. Even better than 3D's in my opinion. Frank

I'f I ain't stumpin in the woods "when I have time" I'm workin on the 3D targets that I'll place in different locations on the club, a great way to keep your skills up for that moment of truth when in season.

Unfortunatly, most of my shooting during the week is into my basement consentrating on my form till the weekend.

You went stumping and didn't invite your old buddy Pac?  Oh yea that's right I was out bowfishing.  Lot harder than stumps and humiliating too.  They were darting back and forth and sticking their tongue out at me as I missed.

You should ride with me up to Henry Gray to stump shoot sometime.   Lots of targets and shade.  Squirt on some bug juice for the skeeters and we would be good to go.  We can take the new guy too if he would like to come along.

Stumping is the best thing about shooting other than hunting!  :archer:
