pics of natural turkey fletched arrows
« on: July 20, 2010, 05:16:00 PM »
I've done the searches and looked, but I'd like to see pics specifically of arrows fletched with natural turkey feathers -- I'm looking for ideas, for cresting/wrap color, etc.

Show me what you got.  Thanks all!

Here's some I dyed.

Tracy, those came out very nice!

I don't know what Ron uses, but I just used Rit Dye and vinegar.

Footings add a weight to the front, but, primarily, they allow you to use a much more durable wood behind the point.  They also allow you to extend the length of an arrow.  I have to use full length woodies, and one break off behind the point leaves an arrow too short for me.  Footings allow me to extend back to what I need.  They look pretty cool, too.

Joey, I know the Oceolas are darker (although I've taken a couple of Easterns that were darker than normal), but I have no idea what a Goulds would look like. The second and third ones from the bottom have feathers that are dark and spotty looking rather than striped- are those the Goulds?

You do a fine job on the cresting. I got stuck on Sharpie pens, but I just can't get the fine lines and dense color saturation with them. They're so easy, though. I'm a sucker for easy.

Thanks for the good words.

I'll post mine up once I finally get them finished.  I believe I'm going with Rob's technique and doing 4 fletch with 4" banana cuts.  -- figure I'll get more fletching that way out of my feathers.
