Gray bows................. any pics?
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:48:00 PM »
I REALLY want a gray bow!!  I've talked with Big Jim about dying or staining Tiger Myrtle, Tamo Ash, Waterfall Ash, Zebra wood, and Spalted Maple but the problem is no one knows how its gonna turn out.  In my mind the Tiger Myrtle would look like an Aussie Shep, and the others would look great and match the tree bark perfect.  Has anyone dyed or stained any of the woods above or even Curly, Quilted, or Tiger Maple?  I'm looking for something to match the hardwoods bark of my hunting areas.  Also what dye or stain should I get?

Thanks and God Bless,
Ken
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

I have a grey actionwood bow on order from Stalker Recurves. Grey limbs and risor to match the woods. South will be done with it by the end of the month I think. Here's what the riser will look like (left, all actionwood):

My Black Widow MA is gray hence the name Gray bark. I also saw a post where someone had a Shrew with Tamo Ash lams that were dyed gray and it looked fantastic.

My Lost Creek has a Charcoal Black riser. It's dark gray. It is my absolute favorite riser. It just looks cool...

I emailed you some pics of my gray curly maple BW PAX. Too much hassle to resize them for here.

If you look for some Shafer Silvertip threads you'll see some grey risers and stained limbs as well out of a curly maple veneers.

Thanks for all the info and pics!!  I think I'm gonna tell Jim to go with the Greybark like  TJ's (Fountain's) bow.   I'm still gonna find out what Zebrawood and Tamo Ash look like stained though for a future bow when I get the funds.

Herb Meland's "Grey Actionwood" Pronghorns are not only lookers, but his bows are top performer's.
