Hogs in Morro Bay?
« on: July 23, 2010, 01:05:00 PM »
I was on my way to work this morning and happen to glance to my right and saw these guys out in a field not more than a half mile out of town. I pulled a U-turn, parked my car and thought a little stalk with my phone camera was in order.
The first picture shows the gang at about 150 yards from me. If you notice there is a Hay stalk on the right. That was my target    :)

Sorry for the picture quality but the phone was all I had.....

I am wearing my work clothes and no camo. I did not want to belly crawl so I hunched over and got as low as I could and got a bit closer.

One of the gang almost made me as the grass is only a foot tall or so. I waited him out and got closer yet......About 30 yds    :)

I am pretty sure I could have closed the deal but I was late for work....Fun start to the day though....When I stood up and walked back to the car they took off on a dead run    :)

So is it land you can chase them on?  I am working up a couple scouting trips to southern Oregon.  That is the closest hogs to my location.  I want to hunt them a lot I just have to invest the time to find them.  Their population is fairly thin in Oregon but being closest and reasonable prices for hunting I am going to give it a shot.

Maybe they will put together another Tejon hunt next year (search Tejon hogs in POWOW). Lots of hogs here in California just tough to access without spending money.

Good luck in Oregon....

San Luis obispo County is loaded with them. This is the first time I have seem them in this spot but it's a great place for them? This group are less than a mile from the estuary and the water? The pasture they are in is just out of the picture to the bottom right.
